I sometimes get the impression that B&B's are starting to put use the word "Boutique" to drive more trade. Having stayed at a number of excellent establishments of this sort I suppose I have built up an expectation that unfortunately was not met on this occasion.
It was a nice ordinary B&B but not anywhere near the higher part of the scale.
On the positive side:
The hosts were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast room was finished well and well presented, the Wifi worked well, the location was exceptional and parking (although stacked in) was free and on site.
On arrival as the door opened we were greeted with a pungent damp / bad drain smell.
We stayed in a double room.
The room was ordinary. It was clean but tired. The nicest thing in the room was the sofa but the rest of the furniture was nothing more than ordinary.
The bathroom was TINY. I am a slight person but still had problems. Again because of poor ventilation there was a stale damp aroma.
The flat screen TV was VERY small and mounted at right angles to the bed.
The breakfast was again ordinary but OK. Microwaved Scrambled egg was a disappointment
Rightly or wrongly my expectation was for a little more when described as "boutique".
If you want a clean B&B in a great location for the centre of York with friendly attentive hosts without too many bells and whistles then this is a good choice.
