“Fantastic house and host!”
Reviewed September 3, 2017 for a stay in September 2017

We have just got back from the light well after having a family weekend away. The house is beautiful and the lady who owns the house is a fantastic host. Very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be coming back here. It's a short walk into the centre and very quiet area. We were swapped to this house last minute and I'm very glad we were.

Thank you for a great weekend.

“Loved our visit”
Reviewed October 28, 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We have just spent 4 nights at The Light Well. We all loved it, the house was immaculate, lots of attention to detail and an excellent finish everywhere. The kids loved the attic room as a playroom and the underfloor heating in the kitchen. Really handy for the City Centre and off road parking for two cars. Opposite a really nice playground and great Indian restaurant. Will definitely return.

“A really luxurious home from home”
Reviewed July 9, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Stayed 4 nights in July. We were welcomed with chocolates and wine and an immaculate cottage. It is about 10mins walk to town and is in a lovely quiet area. The house has been tastefully decorated and there was everything we could have wished for.
I would recommend The Light Well to anyone.

“Luxury holiday home in great location”

The Light Well could easily be called The Light House. The first impression when being shown round when we arrived was just how bright and open everything is. There are ceiling windows on the stairs, in the living room, in the spare room and in the attic. It's a great feeling, and gives the house great personality. The Light Well itself is internal to the house, so you can sit there in your pyjamas playing Backgammon (would I do that??), and you're only 10 steps away from the coffee maker if it's a bit chilly.

The Light Well is easily the nicest place I have stayed. The owner has spent a huge amount of effort in getting everything "together", so there's lots of creams and purples (my girlfriend's favourite colour) and the quality of everything from the iron* to the bedding is first class. The appliances are new, the coffee maker (Bosch Tassimo) makes astounding coffee and peppermint tea, and it was a pleasure to be cooking away from home with such great cookware. It's simply luxurious. The showers are excellent. The pillows are excellent. There are 3 toilets, one with shower/bath and the en suite for the master bedroom with a shower, so getting ready to go out never results in any wasted time. The ceiling blinds have remote controls(!) The kitchen is the size of America. There's one huge TV too many for me, but you've got full Sky with catch-up and record in two rooms, and Freeview in the dining area. If you're the kind of person who sits in The Light Well with a Kindle instead of travelling to a holiday home to watch Jeremy Kyle, you'll know what I'm talking about.

The location is fabulous. We don't drive, so it's about 10 minutes to the walls at the Minster end, so 15 minutes tops to the centre of the city, and there's a little strip of ships with a really good Chinese and Indian takeaway and a Spar about 3 minutes away from the house. Handy for pints of milk. And Chinese food! The house is well set back from the road, and although the St John's Uni is just down the road and we were there during fresher's week, it couldn't be quieter. Across the road is a park with bowling greens, and just 1 minute up the road next to that is a swing park. We walked up to Monk's Cross and that's only about 35-40 minutes. There are buses (1, 5 and 5A) into the city every 10 minutes or so daytime, and if you're brave (like us), it's only about 20-25 minutes walk to the train station.

The owner is fabulous, stays right next to the house and is only a call/text away if you need anything. She greeted us with a lovely bottle of wine and chocolates, and there was milk in the fridge and plenty of pods for the coffee maker as well as instant coffee and tea. Really nice to explore the house with a hot cuppa after a long day travelling, rather than having to head straight out to get supplies.

I couldn't recommend The Light Well more highly. We were completely relaxed within hours of arriving, and having to pack my case and leave the house, the light well and the iron* at the end of a week was genuinely sad. I loved it.

*the iron is legendary in comments for this property. I'm a 45 year-old man, and yet took every opportunity to iron stuff. It's one of those steam generator ones with a separate base thingy with the water, the ironing board is awesome, and you can do a pair of crumpled jeans in about 22 seconds flat.

“Ideal accommodation in an ideal location”
Reviewed May 31, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Excellent accommodation that will fulfil the needs of those wishing to have a short or medium break in the city of York.No more than 15 mins walk to the Minster. The owner is welcoming and friendly, the house equipped with virtual everything the guest might reasonably expect or want(and a little more besides). The cost is attractive and this certainly better than the generic experience afforded by hotel chains.

“superb,couldn't be better”
Reviewed April 13, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Superb accommodation. This is the best equipped and cleanest rental property I have stayed in. The mews house is very spacious (sometimes an issue on holiday!). The owner has went to a lot of effort with the gadgets on offer. The location is ideal, easy 10 minute walk into York centre(our four year old easily managed it). There is also a little play park across the road, which was great for those with young kids. Also has a garage-car parking looked like a nightmare otherwise. The owner is also a great host, with wine, chocolates and milk on arrival.Loved our visit.
