“Perky loveliness”

Wonderful, independent coffee shop. They really take care over how the coffee is prepared - I've never been that particular about coffee, but this place has changed my view on that!

Great for sandwiches, especially the bacon sandwiches on fresh cheese bread from the Shambles bread man.

A few tables inside, a sofa, plus wi-fi and friendly staff, make this a fantastic place to relax, all inside a turret!

Guaranteed to kill your Starbucks habit!

“Great Coffee & Bacon Butty”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

Another independent coffee cafe in York. Why do people drink coffee in the chain stores when York has such great small coffee places. So great coffee, then we come to the bacon sandwich ('Butty' or Bap) 3 slices of delicious bacon in the bread of your choice, cheese bread for us this morning. The Perky Peacock is small but well worth squeezing in if they are busy.

“May well be the best in York”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

York has the reputation of being a tourist trap, and there's a Costa on most corners, but there are actually quite a number of high quality independent cafes here. The Perky Peacock may be the best. In a nice little tower on the river, there's actually more to it inside than you might think from outside: good seating, wifi, etc. There's even some seating outside when it's nice. Great coffee (including specialities), nice selection of food (try the damson bakewell!), and friendly service. Highly recommended.

“One of the best coffee shops in the UK”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

The Perky Peacock has fantastic food - a wonderful selection of breakfast, sandwiches, other lunch treats, cakes, biscuits and bagels. I can highly recommend their cinnamon and raison bagels.
Where the Perky Peacock is second to none is their coffee - as well as their usual roast, every week has a special guest coffee, offering customers a chance to develop their coffee tasting skills ;) The coffee is expertly made most of the time. Try their guest roasts in flat whites, lovely!
The staff are very friendly, which is a refreshing change from the "here's your coffee, get lost" service that has become normal in most coffee shops.
One of York's hidden gems. A must visit.

“Great Little Tearoom!”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

We visited the Perky Peacock tearoom, which is situated just under Lendal Bridge York, on the recommendation of Adam who owns The Green Cab ride. We visit York quite regularly and didn't know this place existed, so thanks Adam! The staff were really friendly and the service was good. Slice of Victoria Sponge and Lemon Drizzle cake plus big mug of tea each. mmmm! Think it cost us £6.82 which is about right for York and was well worth it. They also do takeout service which seems to be popular with nearby office staff. Give it a try. They won't disappoint you.
