“Lovely B&B, really nice finishing touches, close to York - only a couple of niggles”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights and had a really lovely time. We booked via hostelbookers and paid £78 per night for our room, which was a 'deluxe' double. This meant that it had been recently refurbished and was more modern than the other rooms. The king bed was huge and soft and there were really nice touches such as packets of biscuits, tea and hot chocolate and bottles of water. The room was a perfect size for a couple of nights - maybe a bit small if you were there for a week or so! The bathroom was big and spotless. Only problem was that the shower took about 5 minutes to heat up on the morning and didn't have that strong a pressure, but no big deal.

Free wifi with no password needed.

Breakfast was included and we had the full English - a decent size and really tasty. The only problem was that it was only served from 8.30 - 9.30. Understandable that they don't want to be cooking for hours, but maybe a bit of a problem if you want a lie-in or are on a business trip.

Owners were friendly and helpful and you can come and go as you please with the key. The place was about a 15 minute nice walk into York - and I'm a slow walker. Would recommend it and may well return one day!

Room Tip: Deluxe room is worth the extra few pounds a night

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was fine. Friendly and helpful owners who let us leave our suitcase there on the last day until we went to the railway station. Good breakfast - I had the full English both mornings but there were other options although the juice seemed to run out quickly. Cosy room (we were in room 4) with a comfortable bed and plenty of freebies such as biscuits, hot chocolate, tea/coffee, shampoo, tissues, cotton buds and an alarm clock. Bathroom was basic and the shower wasn't great but can't complain much at the price we paid. In a fairly quiet surrounding but only a pleasant 10-minute walk to the city centre and a similar distance from the station. We're a young couple who had images of B&Bs being mostly populated by elderly people but there were a French family staying there along with some what sounded like Australian tourists so a good mix of people. Would recommend for a visit to York.

We stayed in a four person room which was super for our 1 night stay whilst visiting York. Myself and my 3 friends enjoyed our stay here. The breakfast had an excellent choice and was very tasty. One of my friends had a heavy bag which the owner carried up to our room for her. Our room was very roomy, comfortable and clean. We would definately stay here again.

we stayed fr one night in august. The welcome was friendly and the breakfast was delicious. The roms were very clean with a good supply of tea/coffee. The only downside was the small double room decor was quite outdated and could do with a bit of an update. The area is quiet and is within walking distance of the bars/restaurants

Everything is fine: clean, lovely vreakfast, faultless facility in room, nice staff. Could be better if the staff can have more interaction with us. Location is around 15-20 mins walk from the heart of city whuvh is a bit of walk for backpackers. Good stay in general.

We have visited the guest house 3 times and every time we go to York (several times a year) we will always stay in the Barrington. The last time was on Valentines day where i asked for some flowers to be placed in the room when we were out. We returned to find a lovely bunch of flowers and also petals sprinkled all over the bed. The people who run the guest house make the most loveliest breakfast. It is perfect walking distance into York - about 5 mins and a parking permit for the private road outside.

Definatly recommend for someone who wants a spotless room with lovely staff.

Thankyou Alan and Christina

We stayed here for two nights in July. When we arrived we received a friendly welcome with everything explained to us and showed to our room. Breakfast wasn't included in our rate but we were offered it for a small charge which we accepted. There were a wide range of options made from high quality ingredients (not your usual cheap sausages!). We were very impressed with the place and we would stay there again.
