I wanted a romantic one night stay with my girlfriend, so opted for the Warrens Hotel and requested a room with a four poster bed.

It was nice and clean, and the owners were very friendly indeed, but I think the £70 we paid for the room for the night was marginally steep for the overall experience.

I thought the breakfast portions were small (one sausage, one hash brown) and the choice of cereals/fruit etc. could have been greater for people who didn't want the full english.

Their website is slightly misleading too. It says you can check in from 9-12 or 4-6. I checked in at 10 thinking my room would be ready, but they said I had to come back two hours later! This meant I had to trudge round York for a couple of hours.

When we got back, the room was still not ready and we finally moved into it at around 12:20pm.

The room itself was nice but very hot even with the window open. The bathrooms were ok, but I think a proper opening door as opposed to a sliding door would be preferable, as there was a small gap in the door allowing people to almost see you from the room when at the toilet!

Also the car park is far too small. They have 14 rooms I believe, yet car parking for 6 or 7 cars. We were told to abandon the car in the middle of the car park, meaning that if anyone had to be out we'd have had to move it.

Overall, an OK place with friendly folks running it, but it could do with a lot more for £70 a night.

With regards to check in times. We would love to allow people to check in from 9am but as check out is not until 10am this would be impossible. Many hotels and guest houses insist on check ins after 2:30-3pm. Meaning that guests arriving by car have to pay for parking in the City or paying to leave luggage at the train station. We regard it as a value added service that Guests do not have to pay to park or pay to leave luggage at the station until the middle of the afternoon. On a recent trip to Edinburgh my wife and I had to pay £21 to leave our bags at the train station because our room was not available until 3pm and they had no facilities to leave luggage!

Our car park is small, it can accommodate 12 cars albeit double parked, something we have been doing for over 10 years...a recent 144 bed hotel in the city has 6 parking spaces and one for a coach, so we are not doing too bad.

We telephoned Warrens direct and made a reservation, its about ten minutes walk out of York.
Room was large with four poster bed, bed was a bit ugly and old fashioned but if you like that kind of thing, I personally dont. Television in room and tea and coffee making facilities. Furniture good and carpeting and drapes in excellent condition.
Bathroom was exceptionally clean with lovely white fluffy towels, soap, shampoo and shower cap for those little extras.
Reception area good and internet access was available for a small price of 50p which goes to charity of the guest houses choice. Behind reception is an honesty tab so if you get any drinks you write it down on the pad and then pay the following morning.
Breakfast is delicious, dining area is in a big conservatory and all staff are friendly.
Car parking is secure but cramped but you dont need your car when you stay here as you can walk everywhere.
Would definetly stay here again and would highly recommend it.

We have stayed at Warrens three times now and have never been disappointed. Staff are very pleasant and helpful and have good local knowledge. Breakfasts were tasty and the rooms clean. The hotel is situated 10-15 minute walk from the city centre and railway station, making it an ideal choice for a short break. There is a private car park at the back of the building, very rare in York!! Cant fault Warrens at all and we are certainly hoping to stay there again in the future.

I stayed here with my husband for 4 nights in March. It's ok, but not as good some reviews make it sound ! Our room was small but adequate, tiny bathroom & we had to ask for loo paper twice ! Breakfast was great on the first 2 days but not so good after that. Excellent location & a reasonable price, although there are a few hotels offering similar rates which are closer to the centre and have more ameneties (and spare loo rolls !)

Sorry about the loo rolls. The team at Warrens will endeavour to prevent this from happening again to any of our guests. We are very fortunate that we have kept the majority of our team for years and they are excellent, but even our brilliant staff make mistakes from time to time. If you do have a problem please let Jenny, Richard or any of the team know and we will do everything we can to rectify the problem.

We decided on York for our anniversary as we had visited several times when we first met.
It is the most beautiful city and there is a lot to do.
We chose Warrens through the Tourist VIC because they were award winners and booked directly with the Hotel. What a GEM, close to the centre of the city, a car park and a warm and friendly team of people working there. We booked a four-poster room and a celebration package of Champagne, Flowers and Chocolates.

The hotel is charming, we did not use the bar or the internet very much but it was nice to know it was there if we wanted to use it. Breakfast was superb, local produce and free range eggs. The only downside of the breakfast was that it was a little too large for those of use not used to eating like that every morning...but it was nice as a treat. Our room was lovely and bright and clean and it just added to a perfect break.

I will recommend Warrens to my friends and I will return, soon.

We stayed at Warrens for 3 days on the runup to Christmas. We were very surprised at how very busy the Hotel was thro our stay, York is a beautiful City.

We booked on line thro the Hotel website which was easy enough. We had read the reviews on this site and felt quite positive. Check in was great, we were told where all the attractions were and how to get into the City. Our bedroom was a nice size and well heated, well decorated and more importantly it was immaculately clean. The ensuite was bright and contained what we needed, not huge but more than enough for a three night stay. If you are silly enough to expect a suite for the prices you pay at Warrens you will probably spend your life disapointed.

We never used the computer, bar or restaurant (except for breakfast). Breakfast was excellent, and left us full for the rest of the day.

The car park is compact, and cars were double parked, but you are so close to the City you will not drive and it never proved to be a problem.

All in all a superb break, I will reccommend this hotel and I will be back in summer.

Me and my partner stayed here for one night last october. The welcome we received was lovely and Jenny could not have been more helpful.

But if i'm being honest i was a litle disappointed with the size of the bathrooms and the breakfast. This is probably partly due to the BnB being fully booked that weekend. Also we only stayed one night, a friday. We were given a parking permit for the friday when we arrived in the evning but for the next day (the day we were doing our site seeing) we had to go to a park-and-ride just outside the city. In a way it seems pointless to book a hotel near a city centre if you can't make use of it's location.

Saying that we had a great night.
