My partner and myself stayed at this hotel last Friday for the first time. Have stayed in many guest houeses in York in the past but none match the service we received at this establishment. The staff were fantastic. Really genuinely lovely. The breakfast was fresh and delicious with plenty of choice. The room was clean and spacious. Cant thank the staff enough for our stay. Will definitely stay here again.

Walking up the stairs from the car park at the rear, the Hotel had an air of shabbiness about it with worn stair and corridor carpet. The so called reception area was more like a cubby hole and not manned most of the time. You had to use the telephone and then someone came from a Hotel further down, it was closed from 9.30 pm.
We had room 3 a supposedly superior twin, this cost us £110 per night as we stayed over the New Year celebrations. On entering the décor was good, beds hard and uncomfortable with no pillow covers just another pillowcase. As for the poor quality mattress covers, one was tearing where it fitted onto the mattress, the other just the top as the bottom half must have torn too and they cut it away. Furniture was nothing like the website the dark stained wardrobe slotted into an alcove was so old that we had taken a similar one to the tip which was left in our sons flat when he bought it. The unit with two drawers for clothes was in the same dark stain and had ring marks on the top, presumably from drink glasses. At first the room looked clean that is until I dropped my eyebrow pencil and found a top from a whisky bottle container under the unit. this was given into reception on payment of out bill showing the room had not been cleaned properly. The bathroom had no lock on the door, nowhere to hang clothes, the shower head was on the side of the bath making it hard to shower as water hitting the shower door was prone to wet the floor. The shower either ran hot or cold it was not consistent so we reverted to having a bath. Heating in our room and our son and daughter-in-laws room was not on, when we commented the next morning we were told it was always on until another member of staff let the cat out of the bag and said it was timed. From then on it was warm to come back to so they had listened, but Wednesday evening after returning at 10.45 the radiators were cooling down. That day had been persistent rain all over the country making it a damp day all round and warmth was needed.
All in all this is a Hotel we would not recommend from our experience of it, and wonder how it had the AA plaque on the wall outside at the entrance awarded to them.

Booked a superior room with Jacuzzi for a romantic birthday treat. Very disappointed the Jacuzzi did not work and feel the management knew of this and did not tell us whilst booking or on our arrival. The shower had a mind of its own and water went from hot to cold constantly. Towels were old and shabby.
Agree with some other reviewers that whilst hotel is clean it is a bit tired especially for a 4 star rating. Reception was poorly staffed.
Overall a poor 4 star experience.

Stayed 2 nights with my husband and 2 boys aged 9 & 14. Room was great with a fab shower which even my boys liked! Great breakfast which set us up for the day and really friendly and informative staff. Paul, Jacqui and Pasquale made our stay really enjoyable. Will definitely stay there again if we go to York.

Stayed here sat and sun for the York marathon, really friendly nice guesthouse lovely room with four poster and whirlpool bath (nice after 26 miles) ideally located to get into York. Staff really helpful. Breakfast excellent. On the downside the mattress was rock hard. I like a hard bed but this needed a topper or something

Lovely weekend stay here for 2 nights recently. Stayed in newly opened annexe, room en suite with power shower, large tv, very comfortable bed, clean and warm. Rooms cleaned and beds changed daily. Cooked breakfast was excellent you could just take a photo it was so well presented & excellent selection. Staff very helpful and friendly. Not too far from town centre and great pub just a few doors away if you don't feel you want to go far.

Spent 4 nights here last week and had a wonderful stay. Jackie and all the staff are lovely and cant do enough to please. Ok the rooms are a bit dated but they are spotlessly clean and welcoming, the bed in room 4 is extremely comfortable. We enjoyed a delicious full English breakfast every day in the very nice dining room. York centre is about 15 minutes walk away but it is a pleasant walk or alternatively the number 1 bus stops right outside the hotel and will take you to the Theatre Royal, right near the Minster. We have stayed here several times and always look forward to returning. If you want a comfortable clean hotel with good breakfast this is the place to stay, cant wait for our next visit.
