Review of The Roman Bath

The Roman Bath
Reviewed January 16, 2013

This place is under the Roman bath pub hence the name.Only takes about twenty minutes but well worth seeing.Only a few of us when we went in so had plenty of room. You need a good camera down here because of the conditions. The guide was full of information and very helpfull.

This is a tiny place but well worth the stop. It shows the foundations of an old Roman bath house. There is some information on roman history and a dress up area for kids where they can try on replica soldiers paraphanelia. Definitely a worthwhile stop.

If you like Roman History and have half an hour to fill in York, visit the Roman Bath Museum, under the pub of the same name.

The entrance, by the pub door, reeks like a gents lavatory but don't be put off. The small but interesting museum around the remains of a soldiers bath house is really good. Displays explain the layout and use of the baths and there is some Roman gear to try on, all good fun and makes for great embarassing photos later.

I believe if you are lucky the curator gives an amusing tour. We were not so lucky, he merely took our money, looked at his watch and when we left scurried up the steps behind us to remove the "open" sign.

Great interactive displays, excellent commentary at all points of the museum. You really felt like you were stepping back in time. It was so easy to imagine it as it would have been when it was in every day use.

Bath is a gorgeous town to wander around. We went just for the day and to visit the baths, but could easily have stayed aa couple of nights in Bath to appreciate all it had to offer.

Definitely worth the trip with or without kids.
