What a gem! York is full of restaurants, bars and cafes, but if you want somewhere to eat with exceptionally high quality food - you have to come here. We ate at lunchtime in the deli and had bagels, I had smoked salmon, my wife chicken, both accompanied by an amazing salad/slaw, coffee and a cake each. Being able to watch the food being prepared, you could see that the staff take a pride in their food; no rush, an eye for detail, fresh, delicious produce and very well presented on the plate. I read the menu thoroughly and would have quite happily eaten all of it! The larger, cooked meals also looked highly appealing. All of the options have a healthy basis, so you do not feel too guilty topping it off with a cake!
Food and deli items can be bought to take away, the multiple bread options and pastries looking really good.
The staff were very friendly and engaging and despite it being quite compact downstairs, they made no effort to "move us along", as a result we had a wonderful relaxing lunch.
The deli kitchen was in full view and was spotlessly clean and tidy, each table was cleared and cleaned thoroughly and promptly and the toilet facilities were of a very high standard.
Cannot wait to go back - I just wish it was closer to home!!

Second visit & certainly not the last. The food is very good, the portions generous and the staff friendly. Will probably use the take out service in summer as its very good value.

Happened upon this cafe/restaurant on a recent trip to York. It was lunchtime, it was cold and it was raining! Looked through the window and there was a free table in the downstairs deli area where I was happy to sit, even though I was offered a table in the upstairs restaurant. Friendly and good service throughout my short stay as I only stopped for a bowl of soup. Two were on offer and I chose the ham hock, leek and pearl barley one which came with two varieties of their homemade bread with a dish of olive oil and balsmic vinegar on the side. One of the breads was gluten free - an interesting almond, lemon and mint loaf with a cakey texture. Everything on the deli counter looked absolutely delicious and I am looking forward to a return visit to York and Filmore & Union. I like their philosophy and approach to food. Would love to try brunch or dinner next time. Would thoroughly recommend.

Thank you for your lovely review. There's nothing better than keeping out of the cold and enjoying a big bowl of soup! We're very glad you enjoyed it. Please come back soon and try us for dinner. We are soon to be launching an early dinner menu (where you get 2 courses for £14.95 or 3 for £18.95 between 5pm- 6.30pm) and a new spring menu! So there's lots to try and look forward to.

We called in at Fimore and Union for coffee and cake. Pleasantly surprised.

They catered for Coelic Disease, gluten free cakes and plenty to choose from.

The slices were so big, we couldn;t manage to eat it all, although we had had lunch not long before.

Really enjoyed our stay here.
