“Something we've all been waiting for...”
Reviewed November 2, 2012 via mobile

Today I took the time to have a delicious breakfast at the delightful Filmore and Union. My jasmine tea came out with that particular "wow factor" that you expect but never achieve, with an ever expanding Jasmine flower in a see-through tea pot. Not just aesthetically pleasing but delicious too.

Breakfast consisted of toasted rye bread with humous, spinach, tomato, mushrooms and pesto topped with a perfectly cooked, runny poached egg. WOW! Where anywhere do you get a breakfast option like that...and as I say, that's just one option. The rest of the menu also looks fabulous and enticing, with no mention of the run-of-the-mill, ever too common bacon, eggs and beans.

The excitement doesn't just stop there either, after taking a sneaky peak at the brand new (literally today, I'm told) lunch menu, the head chef doesn't cease his innovative and creative flare at 11am. With a wide selection of different world cuisines from Thai to tagine, exceptionally sounding vegetarian dishes and warming pies and soups. This 'cafe' has reached the top, putting Starbucks and all those other repetitive chains to shame, even delightful Betty's of York need to keep a close eye on this one.

For now...I'm not even going to look at the cake menu, from my seat I can see the excellent variety and freshness and quality of cakes. Definitely taking one home for later me thinks.

Staff are friendly, attentive and bright. You can see how much they care about their place of work and deliver excellence in every form. Well done to everyone at Filmore and Union. Keep up the brilliance.

“Deliberated but deserves praise!”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

I went here about 4/5 weeks ago now and have been umming and aahing about whether to review as honestly I don't want anyone else to know about it! BUT excellence deserves praise and recommendation so I wanted to say how lovely and attentive the staff were, how truly delicious the food was and how wonderful the atmosphere is (made for me with rustic tables, blankets on backs of chairs, super diddy and fully visible kitchen).
I tasted the scallops, curried coley, mackarel pate and lamb cutlets and all were so good that we are going back on New Year's Eve. Thank you!

It was worth waiting until 3pm. for our Luncheon.......and it was Worth every Penny.
Good value for money.

“Imaginative and original”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

This is original, modern, fresh and tasty food at it's very best. The kitchens are led by someone who cares as much about colour and presentation as they do about taste and balance. The menu is cleverly varied e.g baked fish or bacon and potato cakes, and dishes are served with imaginative and delicious salads. It's a grown up place and probably not for fastidious small children. Charming for lunch but perhaps too cramped for a supper. Space is the only criticism but perhaps because it is small it is beautiful. A real find among the panoply of predictable fare served up by chain style restaurants.
