We went on this boat trip at about 5pm as by then most of the museums etc are closed.
However there is not a huge amount of stuff to see and the commentary struggles a bit to make it sound interesting.
But a nice way to spend an hour resting your feet and watching the world go by. And there is a bar!

A very busy tourist attraction, so be early for a good seat on the outside upstairs for decent pictures. A bar is on board serving all drinks and if you want to be funky. You can take the boat ride during the day, early evening or at night. On Friday they even do a BBQ with a disco/music night (£32.00 each). I did the day tour less busy. The captain gives a running commentary for the full hour of historical and more up to date facts. His jokes are awful so be warned !. Nice way to pass an hour and with concession it is £7 each. Would recommend.

We went on the river king and it was kind of relaxing if not slightly uncomfortable due to the very sun bleached plastic chairs the commentary was a bit boring at times according to my 3 boys ( one actually fell asleep )and I do think someone should sort out the rubbish and debris on the riverbank , I still enjoyed it and its suitable for all ages we got a family ticket for £22 worth doing to see York from a different perspective

One problem with York, especially in a heat wave, is that you get tired wandering around the city centre. We did, so decided to do the cruise. At £7.50 it is quite cheap.
The boat was fine with a bar/snacks available, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable The only problem is that there really is not much to see. You go 15 mins up the river, and turn around and then go 30 mins back down the river and turn around again.
OK, I appreciate that the Ouse is not the Thames, but it is a bit dull. However if you just want a relaxing hour, then it is well worth the money - especially when the sun shines.

We decided to go on the river and leave the rail museum until Sunday due to the very long queue. What a treat it was especially the commentary from our skipper Jenny who not only knew the facts but put them over in a very entertaining way. Her 'Lucy Worsley' style whether intentional or not, I suspect not, was brilliant especially when she described the use of the ducking stool. We enjoyed it so much we joined her the next day for a trip down stream and had a repeat of the ducking stool. I am sure the other skippers are very good but her presentation seemed special. Customers leaving the boat before our trip were telling us that we would enjoy it and they were right.
