My partner and I were down for a break in Scarborough and booked the tour for a day out in York. Arrived half hour early and was asked to wait outside for 20 mins would not have minded but it was raining quite heavily. Our tour guide was named Pedro Who was lovely and friendly and fantastic with the public especially the children that were on the tour. Very informative and got to experience chocolate from start to finish. Would highly recommend tour to anyone wanting to learn the history of chocolate and its ties to York

We had a great time visiting the chocolate story. Our tour guide Serena was very enthusiastic and engaging with the group. She seemed very passionate about her job and the chocolate history of York.

We went to the tour at the end of the day which was great as it wasn’t too busy and was a little cheaper (although even if it wasn’t we’d have happily paid the regular price!)

Throughout we were offered an Aztec drinking chocolate (which was disgusting!) but others enjoyed it! Quality Street Chocolates and also chocolate made from one of the chocolatiers on site. Children enjoyed the interactive computerised chocolate factory, whilst we all got to try Cocoa nibs and 100% dark chocolate.

Towards the end we all got to make our own chocolate lollies to take home which was a nice little touch. Before the end of the tour we had a demonstration from a chocolatier, who showed us how they make chocolates. There is also a small section about the history of KitKats.

The only thing I would say is that the shop is VERY expensive and I was really disappointed to see that the shop stocked lots of products from across the country and not local produce or items related to York’s chocolate factories. Not a KitKat in sight either. It’s a shame as I feel they are missing a trick here. Especially as they tell you how many varieties of KitKats are made (100+ in other countries and 11 in the UK) If only they had a supply for people to buy!

But aside from the shop, a really great place to visit and worth the money. :)

We visited as a couple and found the whole experience very good. You get to try chocolate in it’s different states of creation. A good tour including a short themed video and make your own chocolate lolly. Improvements could be more interactive games at the end.

We booked on the top & tail tour and saved 20% otherwise it’s and expensive tour for a family!!
Overall the tour was informative and our guide Pedro was very good.
You do get to make a chocolate lollipop to take home, but if you are a chocolate lover you might be disappointed by lack of samples...
