Just happened to come across this little pub in York which was hosting a ukelele festival. A fab time was had by all, despite the heat everyone had a smile on their faces. Very welcoming pub. Would definitely return. Bar staff very friendly.

We stopped into the Fulford Arms for a spot of lunch on a Sunday. The menu system they operate is a bit confusing but we were ravenous and decided to take the time to decipher the offer. Being someone that needs to follow a gluten free diet there was not a great deal to go at as the menu is predominantly Italian - pizza, pasta and paninis. My husband ordered a fresh pizza and I went for a few sides (a salad, some tortilla chips and chips). The sides arrived first after about twenty five minutes. The chips were mealy and cold, the tortilla chips were very stingily dressed but, to the chef's credit, the salad was very well dressed and tasty. When the sides had been sat in front of us for a good few minutes, the chef came back to the table to apologise for the fact that they were out of one of the pizza toppings that my husband had selected. It was then clear that, over half an hour after ordering, the pizza was still to see the oven! It was forty five minutes after ordering when the pizza arrived. The base and sauce were really good - which you would expect of an Italian chef! - but the toppings were meanly applied and it wasn't worth the money. The worst thing about this is that we were the only people in the pub so it wasn't even that the kitchen was under pressure and let standards slip. Maybe we should have read something into the fact that the pub wasn't busy and we definitely should have complained more vocally but we were hungry and ate the food so didn't really have any recourse. I do however implore you to give the food here a wide berth at the moment.

We visited specifically for the live music but decided to eat there beforehand too - and were very glad we did. Hubby had the pizza while I had a panini (which we ordered from the bar) and both were really tasty - but if we were to visit again we'd definitely try one of the larger meals from the specials boards (which we hadn't spotted before we ordered) especially as the Italian chef made such a great job of the food we did choose. Hubby was impressed with the selection of real ales, the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, as were the staff and all in all it was a lovely place to spend an evening. Was also impressed that the landlord shushed some of the louder customers who had apparently turned up to watch the band and yet were content to ignore them and yell at each other over the music (very rude when others have paid to watch the band - there are plenty of other pubs to choose from if you think your conversation is too important to save for between the songs) so well done for that too! Sadly it's a little bit out of our way to just pop along for a drink or a meal but if we're in the area or if there are other bands we like we'll definitely return - thank you!

We went here to watch a band - it was a great night and such a chilled and relaxed atmosphere meaning we thoroughly enjoyed the night - I look forward to returning!

As well as the near by Sam Smith's pub, The Wellington, this pub is just the best local anyone could hope for. Friendly bar and kitchen staff, along with an obviously loyal and local clientele make for a relaxed atmosphere. The drinks are good, and by god the food SMELLS good - you can smell fresh pizza dough as you walk in! I can't wait to try some stuff from the Italian themed menu. Adittional positives worth mentioning are the bar billiards table (much better than pool and free to play!) and the huge beer garden at the back which promises to be a godsend when the summer finally pulls it's finger out.
