We visited this theatre to see a performance of Evita, which was, incidentally, very good. However, having visited many theatres from the West End to the Provinces this venue was, to say the least, different. It is obviously old but I am afraid it shows. Maybe I was unlucky, but my seat was anything but comfortable (although the view from the dress circle, was excellent)
The air conditioning could not cope with a warm but not hot day. The toilets and bar were depressing and the foyer unwelcoming. As other reviewers have mentioned, although I assume that the theatre meets all the statutory fire regulations, my wife's first comment on entering the auditorium was "how would we get out if there were a fire?"
Finally, the overall impression was of a drab theatre that was in need of some TLC
