Description: The Spread Eagle is a fantastic, traditional style pub, situated in the centre of York. With regular live music from local bands and DJ's we have established ourselves as part of the live music scene in York. We serve a full selection of draught beers, wine and spirits for your enjoyment along with a lovely range of soft drinks for those non-drinkers and drivers. Situated at the back, there is a lovely beer garden where customers can have a refreshing drink in the summer months and simply relax. The Spread Eagle is the perfect place for a busy night out with live entertainment every week.

We were due for wine tasting at across the road and just nipped in for a bite to eat, being the nearest place. The food was obviously cooked from the heart, and the menu was full of tasty options, available as full sized meals or a sort of tapas of little tasters. Being Veggie and unused to a wide choice, I decided on 3 small dishes of 'tapas' style which were all a new experience in taste, and full of lovely flavour. I would recommend a full meal if you want to be well and truly full, the smaller dishes were enough to keep my going for a few hours but the mains looked more substantial. It's not Haute Cuisine, it's at the back of a pub with plastic table cloths so maybe not the place to go if you want to go out in your 'finery' and sip cosmopolitans. But for £7.50 for a main meal and my 'tapas' together, you absolutely can not complain at the fantastic flavours and friendly service.

We had lunch £5 a head - Escovitch fried fish, dumplings, rice & pies, Jerk chicken, coleslaw, rice and peas. Will definitely be coming back here!

Been here twice now with different people. On each occasion the food has been excellent. Very good value at 5 quid for main (meat fish or vegan) plus 2 sides. Will be back for more.

One of York's oldest and most haunted pubs, just off the famous Shambles, this narrow building is like the Tardis it goes back in time and back in space with bars restaurants and outside covered decking. Cask Marque means a wonderful pint of Theakstones Old Peculiar and lunches with portions rather on the large size. What else could you want!

Came here on a Monday night during "open deck night" so a number of different DJs where performing over the course of the evening which was most entertaining

As for the food the service wasn't the quickest but the service is run by one person, so I didn't mind the wait. The quality of the food was exhalant and was extremely good value £5 for a main course

I will decently be back (this week probably)
