I read the reviews on this restaurant and was skeptical whether or not to take my boyfriend for his birthday meal as we were staying in York for the weekend, but we were pleasantly surprised.
This restaurant looks tacky from the outside as it is a canteen cafe through the day but at night the doors open up to the back garden and it all goes ell fresco which is FAB! There are just a few small tables complete with blankets for when it gets cold which gives it a very European feel. Great.
For a three course meal you pay £24 and this is such a deal as i have french onion soup (which was better than satisfactory, but the onions needed browning more to add depth). Followed by leg of duck in a Madeira sauce with fresh seasonable veg (potatoes were over cooked). Lastly i had a tarte tatin which was tasty but wasn't really a tarte tatin. These are all small grumbles as for £24 you cant really complain and the setting was romantic and staff were friendly
If you can not find anywhere else you fancy this little bistro is a good find and a reliable fail safe.
