“Homely afternoon tea”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

Afternoon cream tea for two - £10.00

Very fresh scones, good atmosphere, friendly service and periodicals to hand.

Independent coffee and tea shops need our support so that we are not engulfed by a tsunami of mediocre (at best) chains!

Spread the jam and spread the word!

“excellent birthday breakfast”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

Throughly enjoyed our breakfast at Ambience on Saturday 28th April. This was a family meal to celebrate by birthday. Eight year old grand-son said it was best breakfast he had ever had!! praise indeed.
Thank you as ever.

“A wonderful night out!”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

This is a lovely little restaurant. Didn't book, but still managed to get in on a Friday night. We were pleasantly surprised as we were not planning on going there, but happened to walk passed and it looked really nice.

The food was gorgeous! We had the Beef and the Vegetable crumble. Both were beautifully cooked and well presented. Service was fast and the staff were very friendly. We will definitely be going back there again. They are only open three nights a week, but worth it on a night out! The atmosphere was lovely too. Only a small restaurant, but homely, and there is a big garden out back that will be brilliant in summer.

It was amazing value for money with 2 courses for £21 or 3 courses for £24. Not bad! We were in such a faff gathering our stuff at the end that we forgot to leave a tip, but we will be back so we'll leave double next time!

“A must for lunch”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

Visited Ambience once again and had a superb lunch. Amazing value for money and beautifully cooked and presented. Well worth the walk down Gilygate. If you haven't been yet you must try it.

Excellent

“The name is justified (fortunately!)”
Reviewed December 2, 2013

Visiting York one Saturday night and ploughing down the long list of TA reviews left me with about four restaurants on my short-list. In the end I plumped for this one, not least because of its small intimate appearance and the fact that the chef was likely to be the proprietor…

Food was very good and some original menu ideas (without being quirky), although hearty eaters might feel some of the portions were a little light. Unusually desserts were for me the best course. Both the service and ambience were excellent and, despite it being a cold evening and external doors not far away, it was nice and cosy inside.

I particularly liked the fact that once service was complete the owner popped out to chat to the diners, and moreover seemed receptive to any feedback he was given. I wish him continued success.
