“Fabulous and definitely tasty!!”
Reviewed March 13, 2013 via mobile

Called here on a chilly Sunday lunchtime on 10 March for a late brunch - we had a wait of about 20mins for a table but on seeing the food being brought to other diners, we decided the wait was worth it!!

And we were not disappointed!! I had the most fabulous Eggs Bendict followed by individual carrot cake! My companions had Yorkshire Rarebit and Cajun Chicken sandwich, again followed by scones and brownies!! None of us were disappointed and we left needing stretchy waistbands!! Tho I did purchase one if their homemade sausage rolls to take away!!

I would definitely recommend this cafe bistro and am just sad that living in Northern Ireland I'll not be able to visit on a regular basis!!

Worth the wait and worth trying!! :))) Cx

“Something a bit different”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

We ate lunch here, it was busy and it soon became obvious why. We shared a "graze board", all different types of speciality meats & cheese, artisan bread etc.Served on a rustic wood slab and washed down with the best minty tea I've ever had.

“Lovely place to eat”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

This is an atmospheric, busy, bustling cafe-deli, close to York Minster and the Lendal Bridge. Young, friendly and willing staff sell artisan bread, cheeses, meats and pastries at the counter, while waiting on the scrubbed tables. If you sit at the right tables, you can see the food being prepared in the open kitchen. I watched my Eggs Benedict being assembled on the pass, and they tasted every bit as good as they looked. The ham was lean and tasty, the eggs poached to perfection, and the creamy hollandaise was served in a tiny Kilner jar.

The pastries can be chosen from the display at the retail counter - they taste as gorgeous as they look. The coffee is as good as you would expect, and the leaf tea is served in pots with built-in strainers.

This was our third visit together (my wife has been during the week with friends) and it will certainly not be our last.

“Exceptionally good value”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

We had lunch here yesterday and the smoked Salmon platter which I had was excellent - a generous portion of salmon, delicious toasted ciabatta, cream cheese and a salad dressed with capers, gherkins and sun dried tomatoes. Beautifully presented and quite exceptionally good value, served with really good tea.

All five of us had lovely meals and really enjoyed the experience.

One of our party is gluten intolerant and it would have been great if some GF bread had been available, just a suggestion.

We'll definitely be going back.
