We have just had a lovely weekend in York. York is a beautiful place, lots to see, street entertainers exceptionally talented. There are 2 travelodges in York, the other being the micklegate one. If in doubt as to which one to choose, definitely choose the Piccadilly one. Our friends couldn't get a room in the piccadilly one and so had to settle on the micklegate, and had a few problems due to the fact that it is on a very busy street and right next door to a night club, and so the noise is too much. The windows have to be open as there is no air conditioning and so that made it worse. So choose the Piccadilly one. We had no problems with noise even though wetherspoons is right next door. We found that very handy for beakfast. Our friends in the other Travelodge, which does breakfast, didn't think that it was value for money.so I would suggest you go out for breakfast if you stay there. The Piccadilly Travelodge is only 10 minutes from the centre and 15 from the station, and our room had a lovely view of the river foss. I would definitely recommend this Travelodge and will go back soon!

Room Tip: the rooms overlooking the river seem to be the quietest.

Pros: Clean rooms, good size rooms, friendly staff, good price, good location, close car parks if you drive.

Cons: only 30 mins free wifi, crappy chain hotel towels, no AC so rooms were quite warm, this necessitated leaving the windows (and shades) open at night to get some air in; this makes it hard to sleep as it started getting light shortly after 4 AM.

Didn't really mind the cons as the price was right.

Had a long weekend at this great hotel with friends, so easy to walk into York city centre, parking is not too far away with discounted parking charges from hotel with a voucher.
Very helpful young lad staff member on the front desk called Ian. Also a very friendly manager. Weatherspoons bar is next door for nice breakfast and dinners. To help your stay go easy and hassle free ask for a room that faces outer road and not in the inner courtyard this is for noise reduction from smokers standing in courtyard. This is something that is outwith travelodge's control.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms not in the inner courtyard area.

Had a very unsettled night in this hotel last week. Noise from pub next door was terrible as people sat out in the square drinking past two am. Room was fine, but very hot as there is no air con. Avoid over the coming months.

It is regrettable to learn you were disturbed by the pub next door to our York Central hotel pkgoodfoodfan. We do try to work with local businesses on ensuring they keep their noise levels to a minimum and we also provide double glazing in all of our rooms in an attempt to reduce the noise outside, especially in central located hotels. We also want our customers to be comfortable during the warmer summer months and while this particular hotel does not provide air condition we do offer fans at reception, subject to availability. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Stayed for two nights middle of June.
The room was comfortable, clean and what I expected of the Travelodge. We had three rooms booked but unable to check-in early but one of us paid the £10 and left all the suitcases in one room, likewise we paid £10 to keep one room when we checked so we could leave our suitcases and collect then when our train was due.

Unfortunately all rooms over-look the 'beer garden' of Wetherspoon's (directly opposite) which meant that there was noise until 11.30pm and the staff were out again at 6.30am clearing up ready for breakfast. Plus the area is not enclosed so people come at 'silly o'clock' in the morning and have 'chats',again keeping you awake. So do you roast in the room or leave the window open and rely on 6 hours sleep??

About 20 min walk from the train station.

Would not stay here again but it was okay knowing that it was only two nights.

Staff were helpful

Stayed here 24/6/14,nice modern hotel on 3 levels, staff ok,clean rooms,as new! Next door to Wetherspoons ,great breakfast and service.I paid hotel £70 but I was an evening walk in.
I have styed in many hotels/Lodges and have experienced warm rooms on higher floors ,but this hotel room takes the biscuit for unbearably warm rooms ,I was on 2nd floor ,with windows that understandably only open a few inches ,so I slept for about 3hrs in total, the temperature outside was not very warm .Must be the latest modern insulative building materials. Would not stay here again in the Summer !anyway.Surely an air conditioning option for a supplement could be looked at in future. Also rear facing rooms face busy main road ,so quite noisy in summer with window open.Easy 5 min walk to central York.

Room Tip: Ground floor in Summer maybe cooler ,avoid higher floors and rooms at rear of hotel odd numbers I th...
