Owner description: Holy Trinity Goodramgate has the air of a hidden treasure. It stands in a small, secluded, leafy churchyard, with the Minster towering behind, tucked away behind Goodramgate - one of York's busiest shopping streets. To visit, you pass through an 18th-century archway tacked on to buildings that served as artisans' workshops in the 14th century. The church itself is full of character. The floors and arcades are charmingly uneven. Light filters through the windows, illuminating honey-coloured stone. The east window especially has marvellous stained glass that was donated in the early 1470s by the Reverend John Walker, rector of the church. On sunny days, transient gems of coloured light are scattered on the walls, and various Medieval faces stare out from the windows.

“Medieval Stained Glass”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

York is incredible for the amount of its history that is so well preserved. Having visited many other places in Europe, I do not know that i have seen as much pristine medieval-era stained glass as I did in York.

“Fascinating”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

We visited as part of our "Snickelways of York" walk on the 2nd January 2014. I have lived in and around York for many years but never visited this gem, hidden away behind busy Goodramgate. It's well worth a visit, either for its historical interest (box pews, double decker pulpit etc) or for the spiritual peace it offers away from the bustle of everyday life. It was very cold, so you may not want to stay long on a winter's day!
