“Excellent B&B in good location”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

I recently stayed at Moorland House in York with my husband and daughter, the room was quite spacious for three persons, the buffet breakfast was excellent ( best breakfast in B&B by far) ,good choice and very tasty. The city centre is a 20 minute walk away which is very handy. I would recommend this B&B to anyone wishing to visit the lovely city of York.

Booked this place having read reviews on another website which were positive. Arrived to be given a room that was dark to the point of not being able to see even in midday Sun. Furniture tatty and chipped, bedding well worn and dusty and walls so very thin that we were treated to a full full sound show every time our neighbours turned on a tap, opened a door, used the toilet...... quite disconcerting to discover that dining room was locked until appointed breakfast time. Dining room occupied by no one under the age of forty, me being youngest at forty one yet we all had to suffer through capital radio on throughout breakfast. Breakfast shoddy, astounded that my partner didn't suffer food poisoning from under cooked sausages. My partner ended up doing a ( to me at least ) hilarious tip toe through the really poor quality shower due to it being either freezing or boiling and the water pressure being very poor. My long thick hair proved to be too much of a challenge for the shower therefore I ended up feeling grubby all throughout my stay. Overall a dreadful experience.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here

We went to York for one day and made a reservation at Moorlan House a kind of B&B. However we arrived late, around 11:30pm, and were welcome with shouts, because we are late. The person was very mad and was very rude with us, he made us pay immediately but cancelled our breakfast and all the time he was shouting on us. We didn't know anything in the city and decided to stay in the B&B. Next day, he didn't cook any breakfast, even charging us for it. We needed some guide for the city and there wasn't anyone in the reception. We rang the bell and the same guy came at the top of the stairs and gave us some few directions about how to arrive in the city. He looked like very unpleasant with us. We left the B&B walking with our lug gages and without breakfast. It wasn't a very good first impression of the city.

Room Tip: Don't go to that B&B

My friend my husband and I stayed for 1 night in a triple room at this guest house. We read the reviews on here and thought we had made a mistake booking but upon arrival we were happily surprised. We were greeted by a very friendly young man who was ver helpful in offering us information about local attractions and taxi information. We were not forced to pay upfront but instead was asked would you like to pay now. Our room was on the ground floor and smelt very fresh and clean. The bed/sheets were very comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The toilet may have benefitted from a little more domestos but was certainly not unsanitary. We had a breakfast included in the price and it was great. The food was lovely and we were given plenty of time to sit and relax to enjoy it. We would absolutely stay here again!!

Room Tip: The triple room was a little small but very cosy and warm. We were ground floor and was oly disturb...

My mum booked us a weekend away for my birthday here, at The Moorland House, through Booking.com. On arrival, it looked lovely & was handy to have an off road car park! However...that suddenly changed!! Once we rang the bell, and walked through the door, within seconds we were handed a card machine & was told for 2 nights b&b it was £140!!! I handed over the card (although wasn't sure what to do/say) and was handed a key...we weren't shown to our room & I'm really not surprised why!
When we walked into our room, I was disgusted!...it smelt of foist & damp and was freezing! There was a tiny radiator which wasn't on & when we asked for it no one was available! We were given a room with a double & single bed for some reason...neither which I wanted to sleep in! The bathroom smelt & was dirty! We were also right at the side of a window (which wasn't double glazing) and each person who came in & out of the b&b were right at the side of our window! We asked for another room & was told this was not going to happen as he was fully booked!
We instantly felt uncomfortable & wanted to leave but the owner argued with us over a refund!...I explained I wasn't staying here & was entitled to a refund! He eventually gave in after 45 minutes!!
We rang around hotels in York & stayed in the lovely Queens Hotel...a million miles away from this place!
Would NEVER recommend anyone to stay here!

Stayed here over weekend{2nights}. Very dated needs refurb .For what we paid and what we got it is incedibly expensive, If it had been half the price it might have been acceptable,The cleanliness needed a lot to be desired. The Guy who greeted us made Lurch out of the Addams Family Look like "The laughing Cavileer".Would not Reccomend this to anybody

Basic room with very dated furniture. En-suite grubby with broken toilet seat and disgusting toilet brush! Shower went from boiling hot to freezing cold. Nowhere to hang or put anything in the cramped en-suite. Whole area needed a refurb!
Also could here the people very clearly in their en-suite in the next room.
Breakfast only average- sausages looked hardly cooked! Daren't try the coffee after another guest said it was the worst filter coffee she had ever had.Was the tea rationed? Very small pot for 2 people.
Not good vibes from the owner or lad who was doing breakfast.
Redeeming features- bed was comfortable and television ok.
Wouldn't stay there again. Overpriced- definitely not worth the money.
