“BIRTHDAY TREAT”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

I treated my wife to a birthday weekend in York, which has fond memories from my Army days and my wife has always said she would like to go back and reminisce. Purely on Trip Adviser and the positive comments for Carlton House is the reason we chose this Hotel. From the moment we entered the hotel we both knew this was no ordinary tourist B & B. The couple who run the hotel are very professional, charming and nothing is too much trouble, they even parked my car for me. The room was modern, very very clean and spacious with all the necessary tea/coffee and bottled water. An added bonus is the free WIFI. Most establishments charge and is normally a bugbear going through the process, not with Carlton House a WIFI code was issued on arrival. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and a generous portion I must say. I nothing but praise for Carlton House and will definitely be going back.

The weekend forecast was correct, terrible sleet/snowy weather so we nearly cancelled our trip thankfully we stayed the course and had a really fantastic break in York.
So nice to have the friendly, personal touch rather than staying at a chain hotel. The room was tastefully decorated with high end bed linen and decor, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. Very spacious bathroom with an endless supply of hot water and a powerful shower.
Breakfasts were excellent with a good choice of cereals, yoghurts, fruit, traditional English cooked breakfast and real veggie options (and included in the price). Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Private car park was a bonus and they dont charge £12 a day to park like some do.

Lovely traditional style b&b in a converted Georgian townhouse, minutes away from Yorks Roman wall, numerous eateries and railway station. Booked direct after being advised to do so on here and saved £20 a night over the Laterooms price (which paid for our lunch both days, result).
Warm welcome and map given with suggestions of where to eat, thank you for Lo Spuntino and El Piano both great reccomendations. Our bedroom was warm, spacious, well appointed with white silk striped duvet cover and bed runner.
Breakfast was plentiful with great choice and lovely waiting staff. Benefit of a car park (in York Yes) with 9 spaces, very well managed by owners who allowed us to leave our car until Sunday teatime to take advantage of the day in York. Follow their Facebook page lots of tips of whats happening in York.

Room Tip: Look at their room pics on their Facebook page then request the room you fancy.

My wife and I have just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable trip to York , the guest house and staff were very friendly especially the breakfast lady who at all times was always smiling and very helpful, it was so nice to see a clean and well run place with great little touches to impress like bottled water in rooms, biscuits with tea and coffee and very stylish decor in rooms. It's clear from previous reviews that you will not be disappointed if you stay here, there is parking behind and this too is organised if you need to get your car out after being blocked in by other cars , well done to the owners who take great care in ensuring every need is catered for .
As for York it's a lovely place , try walking the wall it's great fun .

Room Tip: Room 11 is very nice and quite ,

My friend and I had a wonderful stay at Carlton House. We are both university students and debated about staying at a hostel, but the price for a room at this B&B was about the same and we got so much more for the cost. The room was absolutely lovely, spacious, warm and quiet. The breakfast was magnificent. Very tasty and lots of options. The location was great and easy to get to from the train station. I definitely recommend a stay here.

When you think of a traditional family run b&b you have memories of a little old lady with a purple rinse wearing a cleaning tabbard whenever you see her, place smelling of bacon and her saying 'lock up is 10.30' WELL this b&b was miles apart from my memories.
We were reccomended to give a try by a colleague after years of being brainwashed that a b&b is a poor mans hotel.
Theres nothing further I can put that hasnt already been said in previous reviews, friendly, modern, clean, spacious, warm and cracking breakfast. You offer a fantastic all round service guys and youve changed my opinion totally, were constantly reminded were in austeric times and value for money is paramount, you certainly give it at Carlton House.
Thanks for looking after us and look forward to seeing you again shortly.

Room Tip: At a guess they will all be lovely if they are like our room 12.

We came to York last weekend as Bradford City were playing York only 30 odd miles away but a good excuse for a weekend break away. Our room was lovely and had everything you could want, in fact it was far better than some of the 5 star hotels we have stayed in and although on a main road, we did not have any complaints about noise.
The breakfasts were ample and sufficient and there was something for everyone with hot food cooked to order (their bacon was the best ever).
The staff and owners made the perfect team being both very approachable and able to advise on local restaurants/attractions without being pushy.
Value for money, no more than any other good b&b in York but a lot less than what the citys hotels charge.
And Bradford stuffed City 2-0.
