The undercroft provides a superb history of the Minster - and of the country in general actually! A very beautiful place packed with interest.

Many people but still very spiritual. Weather make walking the walls or along the river a real treat

If you are thinking of booking for a concert at the Minster and are OK with queuing then go for the cheaper tickets for the sides of the nave. Get there early (half hour at least) and you will be able to get an excellent seat position near the front. Get it wrong and you will be behind a large pillar with NO view! We saw the Sixteen on Friday 12th July. Magnificent. Nothing beats this environment for fabulous choral works. Take a cushion! Add.ed advantage - you get to see the Minster for free ( normally £10! ).

The Minster is truly huge and quite remarkable, steeped in history. We spent quite a while exploring, and were even treated to some lovely organ playing and a choir rehearsal that was taking place at the time. We were particularly interested in the Undercroft Museum which covers restoration efforts and the support engineering undertaken to maintain the Central Tower. We thought that the admission fee charged was well worth it. Highly recommended, a must-do for York, all in all a great visit ............!

Even though I live here, I never tire of visiting the minster, it is a shame that they charge so much to see inside, as I think they are losing a lot of custom but I guess that the restoration doesn't come cheap. If you have a couple of hours to spend its well worth a visit, it is seeped in history and the stained glass windows are fabulous.
