Love this place! So beautiful, vast and calm inside. Managed a trek to the very top of the tower on this visit, which is well worth it. Be warned it is a steep climb up a very narrow staircase.

Think more information plaques should be dotted about the place.

I'm not a great one for spending hours walking through old churches. I have seen a thousand of them and, at least to me, not having a specialty in any of the things that differentiate one from another, a fifteen minute glance around is usually all I can muster. However, the Minster in York is that rare exception where even the uninformed, such as me, can really get a lot,out of the experience. It was 20 years ago when I was last there and they have really upgraded to include more interactive displays to help people like me, I assume, to get more out of the experience. You simply should not go,to York and not visit the Minster. PS. 20 years ago i climbed to the top. Wasn't up to,it this trip ( you have to climb, no elevators). Based on memory. If you can climb it, do it. The views were fantastic!!!!!

A fan of religious history, or any history for that matter, simply has to visit this attraction. Apart from the fact that I wanted to eat the cathedral, it is so beautiful, the information and especially the new exhibitions inside are more than worth the entrance fee. These include actual samples of the refurbished stained glass reliefs that are currently being worked on, and an interactive description of the process and history behind it. The architecture itself is very impressive (bring a camera) and the various items of interest within the cathedral are presented to be both interesting and educational. There is too much within York Minster to be covered in one review, but overall I would recommend this attraction to anyone who had even a vague interest in the areas of history, architecture, religion, or just simple beauty.

I took time off a business trip to York to have a look around the Minster. I found it a beautiful place to reflect, and also to look around. The building is undergoing some restoration at the moment, but this is expertly arranged so that tourists and visitors can still circulate freely - so often, a tourist attrcation will just be closed entirely even if not that much is being done to it.

There are just no words at all to describe this place. It towers over all York in all its majesty - while a mix of architectural styles over many hundreds of years, everything blends and matches perfectly; a fitting testament to those who designed and built it over several centuries.

The only gripes I would have is that when I arrived on my first (attempted) visit which admittedly was five minutes before it shut, I was not allowed in by a somewhat officious member of staff, even though many hundreds of people remained inside; by the time the last of them left I would have had time to take a quick photo, which at that stage was all I wanted. The other thing is that one sign will tell you that the Minster is primarily a place of worship and visitors are welcome. Another demands an entrance fee of £14 sterling (which is about €18 / €19 and probably the best part of US$30). This seems exceptionally steep, so the thing to do is go in as a worshipper, sit down and meditate (actually, this is worth doing in itself), and then just go walkabout - which is what I did. I accept that they have to get money from somewhere but surely the answer is to just charge for guided tours and leave alone those who just want to amble about. That apart, I would highly recommend it; no visit to York can omit this place.

Amazing building. Lots of little rooms with the larger ones and easy to miss things. Architecture and windows were fantastic
