Owner description: The Yorkshire Air Museum and Allied Air Forces Memorial is located on the outskirts of the City of York within easy reach of the City centre. The Museum welcomes family visitors, with lots of things to keep everyone in the family entertained. We are also pet friendly, so you won't need to leave your four legged part of the family home alone. Authentically based on an original World War II Bomber Command Station, this unique history museum is filled with a great combination of original buildings to explore, including the restored Control Tower and more than forty aircraft exhibits, from early aviation biplanes to our unique Halifax Bomber "Friday The 13th" all the way to modern Cold War military jets such as the Victor, Nimrod and Tornado jet fighters. Our regular Thunder Days are always popular as a great family day out and our NAAFI cafe has a range of snacks, drinks and meals for everyone. Our guides are on hand to help you explore the museum. They are all volunteers and love to read your reviews!

“Lovely atmosphere”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

An interesting collection of aircraft, on a WW2 airfield with the original buildings which also includes some really interesting displays. We were there on a warm sunny day, and with the 40's music playing through the open PA system, I really enjoyed the atmosphere.

“needs more signs”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

Although we have visited this attraction before, there is still not sufficient signage to find it easily, also I do begrudge paying full entrance fee just to sit in the car park, whilst my husband who thinks it is a brilliant plane attraction and believe me we have visited many over years !!!! walks around with other plane buffs. That said they do a brilliant job in conserving the aircraft and all the staff are helpful.

“Fantastic ”
Reviewed April 16, 2014 via mobile

Visited with 2 boys ,13 and 10 and a husband who is a plane/army buff .We managed to spend 6 hours here although I suspect in the poor weather it would be less .
Lots to look at and read but probably wouldn't suit very young children .
Building 9 and all the stuff to read about Bomber Command is a must .
Lovely atmosphere and clear the people who work here all care about it .It is a registered charity so can only work with the money they get .
A good way to spend a few hours.
