Owner description: The Yorkshire Air Museum and Allied Air Forces Memorial is located on the outskirts of the City of York within easy reach of the City centre. The Museum welcomes family visitors, with lots of things to keep everyone in the family entertained. We are also pet friendly, so you won't need to leave your four legged part of the family home alone. Authentically based on an original World War II Bomber Command Station, this unique history museum is filled with a great combination of original buildings to explore, including the restored Control Tower and more than forty aircraft exhibits, from early aviation biplanes to our unique Halifax Bomber "Friday The 13th" all the way to modern Cold War military jets such as the Victor, Nimrod and Tornado jet fighters. Our regular Thunder Days are always popular as a great family day out and our NAAFI cafe has a range of snacks, drinks and meals for everyone. Our guides are on hand to help you explore the museum. They are all volunteers and love to read your reviews!

We planned to go as our 1st day adventure and were pleased we did as the exhibits are well marked and nicely laid out. Take time to read the write-ups in the old buildings as they are so informative about the history of Elvington as a bomber base. The only stairs are if you want to go into the flight tower. The Naafi caters for your eats and drinks needs and the shop is well laid out and stocked.

The Yorkshire Air Museum is housed on the old RAF bomber base at Elvington near York, it really is very good & a real step back in time with a very special atmosphere its as if the old bomber crews are with you !!! As well as old buildings filled to the rafters with information there is great collection of aircraft some of which still taxi around on special days, with a good sized gift shop & cook house there is every thing there for a great day out.

We having been attending the air museum for the last few years on the military veichels days and my boys love it, everyone dressed up, with lots of 2nd world war veichels, plus it's always nice to see the aircraft, we love to go and take a picnic, they even let us take the dog in, great place to visit, congratulations to all the helpers and volunteers on making it a valuable asset to Yorkshire.

A great museum in an authentic setting, recreating a WW II bomber base. There's an excellent collection of air craft from the very first flying machines to jet fighters and bombers including a Harrier.

This was a big disappointment. Exhibits were stuffed in so tightly that you could hardly see some of the aircraft let alone photograph them. I love viviting aircraft museums but this one was a real let down.
