“Go on a sunny day!”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

Lovely ancient church with an amazing history. Stained glass windows with such stories to tell and the only place you will see the sun shining through a north face window in the afternoon thanks to a trick of the surrounding buildings.
We went during Illumiate York and enjoyed a facinating talk by the vicar. There is a lot of 'digging' going on there at the moment so have a look what's being unearthed!

“Interesting stained glass.”
Reviewed August 4, 2012

Worth visiting for the "Pricke of Conscience" window alone. Sadly we couldn't view this window closely due to renovation work on the floor at that side of the church but the other windows were interesting too including the nine orders of angels windows.

“Quiet and beautiful”
Reviewed May 20, 2012

We were the only people inside this small, beautiful church, which I can only assume is often overlooked in favor of the Minster. It apparently houses the most extensive collection of medieval stained glass in Great Britain (or something) and it really is quite beautiful as well as interesting. Since it is less crowded, it is a much better place to go for a bit of quiet contemplation.

“A Hidden Treasure”
Reviewed January 28, 2012

We found this amazing church close to the Micklegate Travelodge. It is in North Street off Micklegate 2 minutes from the Travelodge, however it is worth visiting from anywhere in the City centre as it is a hidden treasure.
It dates back to the 10th Century and has some amazing features including painted carvings and unique stained glass windows from the14th and 15th centuries still intact For each window there is an explanatory guide. Allow some time to read the explanations of the windows and spot the medieval man in spectacles! We met one of the Clergy who gave interesting information .The church is still consecrated, but only has 76 Parishioners.
Immediately, outside the church there is a nice walk along the River Ouse.
