Owner description: The official residence of the Lord Mayor of York and is one of York's great historic treasures houses and one of its best kept secrets of York's civic history from the simplicity of the hall way to the grandeur of the Stateroom, from seeking the secret drawers hidden in a bureau to discovering the chamber pot, The Mansion House is a fascinating building just waiting to be discovered!

The Mansion House is where the Lord Mayor of York lives and conducts his civic duties.
We only went here as we had some time to kill but were pleased we went. I think you can only go on a guided tour 3 times a day.
Our guide was brilliant and really brought the place alive with interesting stories of previous Lord Mayors and the house and furnishings

The guide was an ex-mayor and very informative.

The building is beautiful and has an interesting history.

Very reasonable to get in and well worth a look.

A small group of us took a night photography course on The Mansion House roof. Access was through the Mayor's bedroom window!

These small courses run twice a year and are well worth it for the view. I think this is the only occasion you can get up there.

Having visited lots of the other 'old house' attractions in York this was the last one during our trip and was the one that we probably enjoyed the most. You can only visit at set times to be shown around by a guide. Our guide was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of information about the house, it's people and the history of York. It was very interesting and it was good to see the various rooms in the building. There was probably more to see at Fairfax House but the Mansion House offered so much more because you were shown around and given lots of information about the things in the house.
It was a very enjoyable, informative way to spend an hour.
