Lovely gardens and grounds. Interesting and impressive house. Allow plenty of time to enjoy to its full.

This is a very good day out with something for nearly everyone. The house is well worth a visit and includes a section on Brideshead Revisited. The great dome is a not to be missed sight. Entrance is reasonable and a shuttle train is available to most parts of the site. Gardens are a delight along with the woodland walks. There is also a boat trip on the lake at a very reasonable extra charge. It is only a small boat and popular so expect a wait at busy times.

The weather was brilliant and as we walked through the woodland area down to the fountain, the view of the house was spectacular. There was filming going on by the BBC so we didn't have access to some of the house, but that didn't spoil the experience. The house wasn't as impressive on the inside but still really good with friendly staff.

Having watched the BBC series Brideshead Revisited, it was wonderful to visit Castle Howard and admire this beautiful, grand family home.
There is so much to admire: the building itself, of course, exquisitely furnished; the Roman marbles; the wonderful collection of paintings.
The guides made viewing even more enjoyable by telling us about the people who, over hundreds of years, lived in such grand splendour. Most fascinating were the stories of the Howard women.
The boathouse, lake and rose garden were truly wonderful and complimented this visit to perfection.
We spent a small fortune in the shop and the food in the restaurant and tea room were way above that of other National Trust places we have visited.
Castle Howard should be at the top of the list of anyone visiting Yorkshire.
