A family day out with my mum and my 2 kids aged 6 and 15. We had a lovely day enjoyed by all of us of all ages! The House was Grand and we had a tour of the house which was imformative but fun for my son!! He enjoyed the tractor ride and there is a marvellous outdoor playarea which kept us all amused. The gardens wher lovely and we had a tour of these which too was imformative but fun for my youngest! Would definatly go back!

“A Nice Day Out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2013

I took the bus to Castle Howard. Not hard to do. I think it cost about 7 pounds for a day return and took about an hour to get there. If you do take the bus, check the schedule for when the buses go back to York, as there aren't a whole bunch.

Castle Howard was beautiful. I visited in the winter, but in less soggy weather it would be very nice to walk trails around the house. There is also a beautiful rose garden. You are free to walk around the house without a guided tour, so you can take as long as you need and it is a beautiful space. There are guides along the way to inform you about the rooms and spaces.

“Dog poo everywhere”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

Lovely grounds spoiled by heaps of dog poo on open grass areas....not by visitors dogs but the pack of about 12 Castle Howard dogs that are allowed to run loose whilst being excercised.

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

What a treat to see such a grand English home. The "castle" is very impressive and is beautifully appointed in every way. The family has done a remarkable job of maintaining both the home and the antique furnishings.

The grounds are absolutely spectacular. The vegetable gardens and the fountain were my favorites. I highly recommend a visit.
