Unique Hotel in York

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 30, 2019
56-room hotel comprised of several buildings, some with historical significance. Immaculate and comfortable rooms and an accommodating staff. The grounds are very pretty and inviting to enjoy. This hotel is located a short walk that takes you into the center of town.

We stayed at Middletons during a two night trip to York. The hotel consists of a number of historic buildings surrounded by gardens. It is in a good location near the river and about 10 to 15 minutes walk into the centre of town and York Minster. There is a car park which costs £10 per night and the car park is fairly small.
Our room was very comfortable with coffee and tea making facilities, towelling robes and a safe. However the bathroom could do with upgrading. Rather scruffy, scratched bath, shower curtain rather than a screen and no shelves.

I must mention Paul who greeted us at reception and showed us to our room. He was extremely helptul and knowledgeable about the area. He gave us some excellent tips on where to go and what to see. Tour guide par excellence!

Stayed in May this year for 2 nights - wonderful Room although so much to see in York probably hardly made use of it however so big, spotlessly clean, a luxurious bathroom AND a well stocked minbar so had we been forced to stay in it would have been a pleasure to do so. Lovely old buildings in equally lovely gardens and no more than a 5 minute stroll to the City centre. We used the Hotel Restaurant for one night only (and only because we wanted to stay out a little later on Day 2) however it was absolutely fine with a good choice of menu and very reasonably priced. Breakfast each morning was first class with a really good selection catering for every taste and really set us up for the day. Many thanks to all the Staff - front of house, the restaurant/bar and all those who we didn’t get to meet but who clearly worked so hard behind the scenes to make our stay so enjoyable. We would recommend Middleton’s without any reservations and should we return to this beautiful City will look to stay there again. One last thing - there is secure on site car parking which I believe costs £10 per night? - a facility we did not make use of as we traveled by Train however it’s there should you require it and a very useful, reasonably priced option it is in my opinion and should anyone think that’s too expensive try parking overnight at a similar quality venue that close to London.

We booked this hotel as a girlie family and friend trip. Upon arrival we walked into the hotel to the receptionist giving evil looks there was no sort of welcoming and also we had to wait over 30 mins for our room as they wasn’t ready . Everyone else was checking in and having tours to there rooms while we was left to find out where everything was ourself. The rooms was a nice size with a big bathroom which we was pleased about the hotel grounds itself were beautiful . Breakfast was average but the cutlery smelt like wet dog which put me off eating breakfast . Would I stay there again ? No rather the travel lodge ..

We loved the beautiful collection of interesting, historic buildings which make up Middletons York. Our room was so clean and welcoming, with a wide selection of drinks, snacks and a beautiful Parkin cake. It felt as if a lot of care had been taken. The hotel is in a fabulous location near the river and only a short walk to all the attractions of York. Breakfast was great too.

We booked this hotel partly because the reviews were so good.On arrival, we were given room 26-a twin-bedded room, as requested, but with so little space we were very cramped. Everything which should be there WAS there,(although more than one chair would have been good) and the shower room was perfectly adequate. We found, with great difficulty (and many climbs up and down dingy concrete steps) the pool-six strokes across, if that.Just the once.Breakfast was OK-not incredibly efficient as things ran out and weren''t quickly replenished.Cooked food wasn't great.Staff were courteous but didn't always do as requested. All in all, we were disappointed.

Thank you for taking the time to let us have your feedback about your stay. I will share your comments with the team and we will use them to keep working hard on delivering consistently good experiences for all our guests. We have a large gym on site but we do not advertise our pool as it is only a small resistance pool. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in the not too distant future.
