Ordered food and sat down. Thirty mins later food arrived for two of the party. They had finished before next lot came. I had ordered burger with chunky chips - mine came with french fries!! Rest of the party - bar two didnt get served until an hour later!!! Several customers who came in after us got served before us. Think kitchen got confused and sent another scampi and burger out for us but had to take them back as they weren't ours. Two of our party got a little disgruntled and asked to see the manager as it had taken an hour just for a plate of chips. When he arrived my friend said that she wanted a refund as it was unreasonable to wait that length of time for chips. He replied "you are not getting a refund, you were told there would be a wait" What a load of claptrap - Never again will we eat in this sorry pub and manager a lesson in customer relations is seriously needed.

After a trip to York Dungeon we needed a drink! This place is just down the road towards the river (which was flooding at the time).
Being lunchtime I was surprised to see how quiet it was. We just had drinks and no food. The Theakston's XB was a nice pint.
There was work being done in the pub which made some noise and obtrusive. The fire alarm was set off which was very loud. Obviously work needs to be done but maybe it would be best before lunch time when you'd expect customers?

Does not look much from outside, so my wife & I were pleasantly surprised when we walked in for a drink whilst on our recent visit to York. Well decorated and clean and tidy with a well stocked bar it appeals to all ages I would think. Open till well into the early hours for those who can be bothered (I am sure there will be many). Well worth a visit!

First visit to York and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. But our lunch at The Lowther was awful. Waited 50 minutes to be served fish and chips. When fish arrived was very greasy and tasteless as were the chips and salad was limp and definitely not fresh. Manager was out somewhere and staff seemed totally out of their depth. A hen party had arrived for lunch and only one chef was on duty. Why were we not informed when we arrived that there could be a long wait? We would have gone elsewhere. Manager returned and we complained again to the waitress, she came back and said manager offered us a free drink. We refused. The manager obviously has no interest in his customers, what a way to run a business!

Some serious customer training required. When asked if meal was fine, we replied that food was not good and steak was terrible. When the manager came, he was most unhelpful and very rude.
Go somewhere else, anywhere, just not here.
