This was like taking a trip back in time! Beautiful old narrow cobbled streets, lovely little rickety looking tudor buildings all decorated for Christmas. Great atmosphere.

When you walk into the shambles, you are immediately taken back into bygone times. This really is a fascinating example of how our cities used to look with amazingly well preserved streets and buildings, what an amazing experience!

Very quaint street to walk along and see the tudor buildings. There are very cute shops to see and cafes to get a cup of tea.

This quirky, old, timbered shopping street is well worth an hour of anyone's time. Nice to see so many independent shops although - with few exceptions - they are clearly aimed at the tourist. York's centre is pretty condensed and this is only one of a number of excellent nearby shopping streets. However, it's probably the one steeped in the most history.

They say you can shake hands from shops on one side of the road to those on the opposite side. Didn't try that one out! I did try the Shambles Tavern for lunch. Fascinating pub cum bottle shop with light meals available in what was once the local slaughterhouse. And very close to the Shambles present day butcher which sells excellent pies.

Unless you hate shopping, you will undoubtedly enjoy some time here. And if you do hate shopping at least you can take refuges in one of the pleasant bars or eateries!

Very historic, interesting little walk, it would do you well to read the wiki page or something before hand to have a better appreciation of the history of what your stepping through. Thoroughly enjoyed the odd shops throughout also.
