The Shambles is a lovely little road in the centre of York, the old buildings are lovely to walk past and look in the shop windows.

The Shambles is a medieval street, with overhanging timber-framed buildings, and so quaint, with lots of unusual shops, a little paradise. Was lovely to walk up and up several times.

The shambles is a must when visiting york, been many times over the years and always come back home after buying somthing. The shambles is basically a street of shops, selling a wide range of very unusual wares, old fashioned sweets to name but a few It is steeped in history, a definate must...... Not at all old, but check out the £1 sandwich shop really delicious with plenty of filling. brilliant value for money, cannot be beaten.

“Old England”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

If you do your research you will understand the history and significance as one of Europe's best preserved Medieval streets. As you walk down this street you might think that you had one too many pints at the last pub because the buildings are a bit oddly constructed (perhaps it was the builders who had a few too many pints!). The different angles and bulges of the houses creates a joyful viewing experience. The shops themselves offer what seems like quality handmade products. It doesn't cost anything to walk and window shop, so it is worth a stop if you are visiting York. The street does get quite busy while the shops are open.

My wife would probably rate this a five, while I would probably give it a three (shopping is not exactly my bag) - so we split the difference :-) Our son was patient enough for us to indulge in some window shopping and photo taking.
