Owner description: Shambles (or The Shambles as it is often referred to) is a street in the city centre of York with a long and interesting past. Dating Back to Medieval times it was once the street of the Butcher Shops. Today the Shambles is Europe's most visited street, attracting tourist, shoppers and business clients.

Amazing little street packed full of life. Virbant colours, smells and life coming from all nooks and crannys within this street. However, Flax and Twine boutique with a small cafe upstairs isnt too great., Hot chocolate came only just warm yet the mug was very hot. Needed to reheat it. Not too great

While going through the Shambles one can imagine the bustling activity of hundreds of years ago. It is a fun mix of yesterday and today with a wonderful Italian Restaurant one really shouldn't miss!

It was very picturesque, but shopping is not really my thing, and what was there seemed to be either very expensive or touristy tatt!

York is such a pedestrian friendly City, with a multitude of independent shops, especially in the mediaeval Shambles. Along with the city walls, the Minster and the National Railway Museum, these are the three things you should see on a weekend visit

The Shambles is another "must do" while visiting York. Being an Aussie, I was awed to see the buildings almost touching! You could pass a cup of tea from upstairs across the road! Cobbled streets and medieval buildings along with the legendary ghosts of York made strolling through a joy and a privilege. Stop and look at EVERYTHING!
