Such good fun. Actors being way over the top in each of the different era rooms. They pick out members of the audience to aid them in their performance. Very good attention to detail and gruesome stories. Well worth the money and again, some interesting stuff to buy in the shop. Particularly good value was the £2 tea towel showing all the crimes punishable by death. Makes an interesting read while you're waiting for the kettle to boil.

I visited the york dungeons years ago, it was good then but its briliant now. It has had a refurb after being flooded last year. On arrival you have your pic taken which you can buy at the end if you choose. There are many interactive rooms and the characters they are are brill. Audience participation in most rooms which is fun. Scary but loads offun. 10/10. Staff really friendly start to finish.

If you have visited the dungeon tour at Warwick Castle you will be disappointed with the York version. This is basically a walk from one room to another where an amateur actor tries to pretend that you are in a particular period of history. The lingering smell of urine is added for effect.
Unfortunately very few of the actors/actresses were convincing, or spoke clearly. Obviously they do the same thing multiple times per day, many days a week; but the trick is that they need to make you think the performance is just for you. If it was £5 per adult it would be okay, but at over £15 per adult it is very poor value for money.
The owners/employees should take a day out and visit Warwick Castle and they will see how this can be done a lot better.
We will not be recommending York dungeon to any family or friends.

Dear Gaz,

I am sorry that you did not enjoy York Dungeon as much as Warwick (we are part of the same company) and I have passed on your comments to the Performance Manager.

All feedback is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks Laura

We had vouchers so it was not full price small queue. The atmosphere presentation smells where all authentic. The actors were excellent and drew you into the tales. It was very dark at times and my youngest at 7 got a little scared at times. My best moment was when my husband got put in the cage in the torture room!
