totally unexpected when entering it has lots of actors enacting gruesome things that happened years ago they were that convincing i was scared at one point its like a ghost tour not for faint hearted but great the only quarrel was 23 pounds per person if on a budget not good but well worth it

We read the brochure and decided to do this 'tour', not quite a tour more a show, really enjoyable and huge amounts of fun if you join in. The actors are brilliant and make it as funny as it is scary!
Realistic smells in the scenes are different and smelly, but make it better. All in all, great show not to be missed, buy tickets on line, save a fortune.

I've been to The York Dungeon many times over the last 15 years. I did have a voucher for my 2012 trip but the place was closed due to flooding. I turned up this year with my (now expired) voucher and the Manager was still prepared to accept it, which was a good start! Going on a December pre-holiday weekday, it was extremely quiet and I was asked to wait until more people arrived, which was absolutely fine. The admissions staff were friendly and open to conversation. Being an ex-actor at The London Dungeon, I know how disheartening it is to be an actor at these places and having to do the same old routine again and again when there's literally only three customers in front of you. Every one of the many actors there put (what seemed to me) 100% into their delivery; very different to some of the colleagues I had in London 15 years ago! The years have seen a change from York being 50% a self-guided walk-around into being virtually entirely led by actors. I found the place almost entirely reconstructed from my last visit a few years ago. Almost nothing was the same - even the familiar Guy Fawkes and Dick Turpin sections have been truncated (in a good way) to give more space to other experiences. Now, historical accuracy had never been a selling point with the Dungeon franchise and York is no different. You shouldn't go here for an accurate history lesson - it's fun populism. If you go with that in mind, you shouldn't be disappointed. I don't think it's overpriced for what you get. If there were no actors there, it might be but it's the staff that make this place worth visiting. It definitely put a smile on my face, and not all entirely due to the cute member of staff who was going to execute me...
