“Can be quite expensive.”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

York Dungeons can be quite expensive if there are a few of you in a group, but entertaining for those who enjoy this sort of thing. Not my favourite place in York, but then that’s a personal issue as I'm not into blood, guts and gore - I'm more a ghost walk kinda gal.

“Used to be much better”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

I visited the dungeon many years ago as a child and loved it, it was all wax work models with boards explaining everything so I was really looking forward to a return visit what a disapointment. It is way over priced well over 30 pounds for two adults, all of the models have been replaced with terrible hammy over actors that shout and jump out at you its way to dark to actually see anything much some parts are a bit clostrophobic to especially the part with the burning and smoke found it quite hard to breathe was glad to get out in to the fresh air. Bring back the wax works save your money and go to the castle museum instead.

“Worth it for a scare”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

If you have not booked then you have a long wait in the queue outside before a further wait in the hallway because they take a picture of your group with one of you in the stocks and one holding an axe, then you wait even longer watching this face video thing before someone bursts out to scare you but being at the back of a large group we didnt see or experience the initial shock. the actors were good and it is scary as your in pitch black in some rooms not knowing what to expect or if the actor is going to scare the life out of you when the lights come back on, or if someone is going to jump out on you going from one roon to the other. You may be asked to sit in a chair, the dock, or cell etc. It was good and worth a visit but a bit over priced as it cost me and my partner nearly £32 plus you are not aloud to take photos...expect as long of a wait as the visit of the attraction

“Rubbish”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

Would not recommend visiting the dungeons at all. Felt totally ripped off at £15.60 each just to be shouted at by rubbish actors. Nothing to read, nothing informative and the more i think about it I should have gone and asked for my money back. Am quite sure we didn't receive full tour either.
