A wonderful museum with something to interest everyone. In the old street shop scenes the staff dressed in costume were really interesting and informative if you asked or showed an interest .One could easily enjoy a whole day here sadly we did not have enough time to do that.Hopefully we will return, there is a nice café and gift shop.

The museum had replicas of the interior of houses and streets from the 18th and early 19th centuries. The cost was a bit pricey for what you got to see. Lots of history from World War I and II.

We visited York Castle Museum early on a Saturday morning in early September and we had a wonderful time. The exhibitions and items were very interesting (highlights were the Victorian streets and the 60s exhibit!), and the staff were very helpful. Aside from the V&A museum, this is the best museum we've visited in the UK!

If you like to visit dreary dusty museums, full of boring exhibits in glass cases, then this one is NOT for you. It's far from boring, full of interesting items. I particularly liked the fabulous recreation of the Victorian street and also the recreated living rooms throughout the decades. As I'm in my 60s, they brought many memories back of "when I was a lad". I highly recommend this museum and it's no surprise it has won awards.

We enjoyed York Castle with its Victorian street and various walk through, interactive history. The first part of the tour is fairly plebeian, with walks though toy rooms and kitchens that look more like someone had gathered all of their stuff from their basement and laid it out. There are a few interesting bits but nothing too exciting. Once on the Victorian street and with the assistance of the guide that does a tour of the street in period garb, the tour gets better and there are some interesting facts and tidbits. The rest of the trip was through WWI, the lead up and the war itself and then trough the conflicts thereafter. There was much to see, and this is my complaint. About half way through the second part of the tour we were abruptly told “exhibit closing” and we had 5 minutes to clear the building. Surely these people know how long it takes to do the tour, but nothing was said when we bought our tickets at around 2:30 that for a museum that was to close at 5 PM. So, if you go, plan your trip wisely because it is likely that you may not get to complete your entire trip unless you go early.
