“Great value”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

Great value, especially as kids go free and the ticket lasts a year. The Victorian street is the star attraction but there is enough interactive exhibits and little quizzes to keep everyone interested.
I think families with young children need to be aware that the dungeon part of the museum can seem very scary. My granddaughter was very reluctant to go through and as I couldn't find an alternative route, we rushed through.
The cafe was underwhelming though the children's picnic bag was good value but we had to wait for the sandwiches to be made and they didn't have the muffins. I wouldn't eat there again but would recommend a visit to the museum to anyone visiting York.

“Nice day out”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

I haven't been since the refurbishment of the museum but I love what they have done, all the extra shops where fab. My only grip really was the lighing, I understand why the lighting is kept to a minimum but some exhibits you could see until you were on top of them.

Overall a good day out and very enjoyable.

“Not as good as I remember, but still worth a visit”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

I have very fond memories visiting the Castle museum when i was a child, as i used to LOVE the Victorian street, this is still the best part of the museum, with a whole range of shops from the era, as well as some side alleys with homes of the poor etc for extra exploration.
There was lots of history about the time of the battle of Hastings, and i loved the costume displays, especially the glamorous 40-50's evening wear!
