There's always so much to do on a trip to York. So why go here? When you see inside you can feel immediately that this was owned by a party lover. Parties in the central hall would have been superb with the doors open to the garden. It has all the usual National Trust features - paintings, history and superb furniture. But what a guy he was. All the staff talk about their "Frank". Particular, demanding and controlling - a drama queen way before his time. Have you ever met anyone who put nails in the floorboards to show the servants where to put the feet of a piece of furniture back, so that it is in exactly the right place? Well worth a visit - keep it in mind and if it starts to rain combine the Minster with a trip to this lovely house!

You must do the cellar tour as well as the servants quarters, a very interesting place especially the cellars which was where the roman soldiers came out of the wall in 1953, fascinating place, a must see

Disappointed that the National Trust cafe had closed down, we went round the corner to partake of morning coffee in the Treasurer's House. as members we were encouraged to book as the house gets funds for all members who visit. After coffees ( and the odd scone or two) we decided we would have a quick look around the property as we hadn't done so before. And how glad we were that we did as this is a most interesting house.
On the day we visited it was quiet so we could spend time taking in the many wonders in its rooms. The room guides were all enthusiastic and keen to pass on their knowledge.
Really enjoyable.

Well worth the visit, once the home of one of Britain's great eccentrics. The guides in the rooms really bring the house and gardens to life, they have great story's to tell well worth spending the time to chat to. The tea rooms are great. All in all a great way to spend a morning in York
