Owner description: Clifford's Tower is all that remains of York Castle. It's set upon a mound which was originally built by William the Conqueror. There is plenty of history to discover. We offer amazing 360 degree views from the top of the Tower over the City of York. Clifford's Tower is open 7 days a week, times vary throughout the year so it's advisable to check the website for details before you visit. There is an entry fee to visit the Tower.

“good view over York”
Reviewed May 27, 2014

A lot of steps to climb to get to the entrance. Nice friendly girl at the entrance. To get the view over York there is another two sets of steps. Once at the top there is great views over York and you can walk all round to see all the different views. The site is managed by English Heritage. There is a small gift shop on site.

“Worthwhile but don't expect too much”
Reviewed May 16, 2014

I would recommend going here because it provides a great view of the city, but the place is quite small so don't expect to spend a lot of time here.

“Er...”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

Imposing, from a distance, standing proud atop a grassy knoll. Not the safest climb to the entrance - it's a relatively steep set of steps (and no other option). Once inside, well...there are two sets of steps to the terrace and an encased model of what the tower would have been like back in the day. The view from the top is decent enough - on a clear day the view stretches to the countryside around York. However...that's your lot. Now, had it been free entry or a nominal fee the 'disappointment' would be lessened. As it is, the entry cost is extortionate for the paltry offerings. Only worth the effort if you are making the most of your English Heritage membership.
