Spent a few hours here last Sunday morning 21st July, could have spent longer but was short on time.Realy enjoyed looking at all the royal train carrigges from the very early ones right up to the newer ones, also the mail train was another favourite you can also go on and look round some of the trains. It is free aswell you just make a donation of around £3..

I visited York railway museum whenever I'm in York and never tire of it. Made a special journey to see Mallard and the other two in the same class. Was aloud into the cab of the Mallard in small groups and the guide gave us a short talk which was very interesting, he was very knowledgeable about this engine. The place itself I just can't fault. There are plenty of clean toilets, cafe's and area's for families to eat a packed lunch. The staff are helpful and friendly. There are so many different engines from various era's and carriages. There's an area with memorabilia and a model railway. It's an excellent day out for families and enthusiasts.

Very interesting, loads to see and its all free. The day we went was very busy due to an event so we didn't get as close to some of the exhibits as would like, really an enjoyable time.

The fact that it was free entry absolutely amazed us. The exhibits are very well displayed and you can get the feel of the immense size of the trains. We went during the mallard exhibition and it was amazing. Do feel that they should charge a minimal amount to get in. Also the food was great.

Lots to see and amazing value considering it's free. Although the front desk people try and get a 'donation' out of you.
If you need a left luggage office, it's far cheaper at the museum than at the station
