When we went the main hall was being refurbished but there was more than enough to keep us interested. Can't belive it has free entry (although we did make a donation, it was completely voluntary)

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

Despite living hours away - we have traveled to this museum twice and spent a full day each time.

Free entry and very clean facilities make this one of the best museums I have ever been to.

There is a variety of activities for adults and children, especially good for keeping everyone amused.

The cafe is a bit on the expensive side, as you would expect at somewhere like this, but then, you don't have to pay to get in, so can't complain really!

The place is literally packed to the rafters with exhibits and really should not be missed.

Very disabled friendly.

Top tip: even if you have no trouble walking, I suggest you wear comfortable footwear, and this place is huge, and lots of walking is involved!

A big thumbs up from our family

“worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2012

Not being a train buff myself, I agreed to visit with my eager husband as we were in York for the day. It's free to get in so that's a bonus to start with. It's full of beautiful old engines and carriages and I can honestly say that I enjoyed it much more that I thought I would. There are refreshments available to purchase and a lovely shop. Can recommend this to anyone!
