Parking outside the door, no entry fee, plenty to see and do for every age group, cafe inside plus seating for picnics. They also hold exhibitions for young and old. If you have lively children it's not too much have a problem as there is plenty of space. Excellent for disabled access.

I am a steam train fan from my youth. The museum is free to enter and we have visited numerous times and never fails to impress. Mallard was in the process of being cleaned but you could still view. What more can I say excellent. Skinflints money saving tip for travellers with several passengers in a car. Drop off the passengers, then go to park and ride. Pay £2.50 for 10 minute bus to York includes return (60p with a bus pass.)

Visited August Bank Holiday, ostensibly to drive my first ever steam engine for the princely sum of £5. It may only have
been a tank engine and it may have been little more than 100 yards down the line ( twice ), but it fulfilled a long-held ambition. Awesome!

Have been coming here for years and you can't go wrong with an exhibition of this size and free of charge! There's something for everybody, young or old, including a miniature railway. A very nice restaurant in one of the sheds called Brief Encounter, selling local produce at reasonable prices and the rather sad sight of the iconic Flying Scotsman undergoing restoration. A must-visit for the railway buff ( aren't we all, deep down? ;) )
