“Great location, quirky apartment, and an owner that couldn't have been more amazing - very highly recommended”
Reviewed June 15, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We were lucky to find The Music Room when our other pre-booked accommodation fell through on the afternoon of our arrival. Rozz (the owner) was amazing - she sorted us out at very short notice, prepared the apartment beautifully, came out to meet us and help with our bags - and even found us a much needed bottle of wine! We were a group of four professional women with high standards and weren't too sure what to expect - but the apartment was beautifully presented and we were totally relaxed and happy there. Great beds, super kitchen - and everything was thought of... Although The Music Room was booked up for the rest of our stay, Rozz even helped us find alternative accommodation for the rest of the weekend - she was amazing and we can't recommend her and her accommodation highly enough. Thanks Rozz - if we're ever back in York, you'll be our first choice.

Liked best: The helpfulness and professionalism of the owner, and the lovely apartment itself
Liked least: There were a few stairs, but Rozz even helped with our bags - and stairs are the price you pay for this kind of period property... not a problem at all...

“Great Central Location - ideal for short break”
Reviewed October 28, 2012 for a stay in October 2012

Stayed at the Music House for two nights in October. The apartments are well equipped on the 2nd & 3rd floor of a traditional building. Very central with great views to the Minster, a mere 50m away. The location was key for us with all the main sights, cafes, restaurants, station within 5 - 15 mins.

Made to feel very welcome by the staff at the Cafe Concerto (on the ground floor) who were able to let us in an hour early and arranges to look after our bags on our final day.

Lovely stay and hope to return.

“No Better Place to Stay in York”
Reviewed October 15, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

The apartment is located about 10 minutes walk from the train station and is easy to find because it is across the street from Yorkminster Cathedral. We traveled as a foursome and walked right to it. The owners, Ros and Ian were friendly and helpful, easing our jet-lagged transition from the US. The rooms are located in a second floor above the Cafe Concerto, also run by Ros and Ian. The food there was superb: we loved the tomato soup and bread! The rooms were comfortable and quiet and the bathroom was updated and clean. The hot water was abundant and pressure was no problem. Customers in the cafe were also friendly and helpful in suggesting sightseeing agendas and recommending times to visit. The rental is not ADA accessible, requiring a climb to the second floor and above, but it was no problem for us. The view out the front bedroom window was a direct shot to the front of the Cathedral. Out the back of the unit, through the kitchen window, was another picturesque old church. We used the kitchen for breakfast; the utensils were fine and the bread knife was perfect! We bought bread at the local grocery store, unsliced, and made toast each morning. Ros had left small jars of apricot preserves that were fabulous. Room service from the cafe was available, but we never used it. One of the best things about the rental was the large family room with sofas and a big screen TV on the wall. We enjoyed late nights planning the next days explorations while watching Season 3 of Downton Abbey. The room had a fireplace but we never used it and a larger dining table that we used only for spreading out maps. If you go, three days is good but four would have been better. We will definitely try to stay here again if we come back to this part of England!

“Great in many ways”

The best thing about this rental apartment is its location which is fantastic, situated right next to Minster. However, as with any city central rental, the location is also a weakness if you want a quiet night's sleep. In the summer months, you will need to open the windows to keep it cool enough, but then you also hear all the various conversations at the many local pubs surrounding the apartment. And these conversations continue two or more hours past midnight, even during mid-week. Then, early in the morning, the traffic starts up including the trash collection trucks. On the plus side, the apartment is roomy with very nice furnishings and lots of nice extras that make it homey. There is a great living area with a large TV and comfy large couch as well as a dining table that can seat six. The beds are comfortable with medium softness/hardness. There is only one bathroom, located on the first floor of the apartment--not on same floor with bedrooms--but it is large, modern, and comfortable. Overall, I think 'luxury' is a stretch, but certainly very nice accommodations. York is a fantastic town with many wonderful sites to see that you can easily walk to--If you're visiting the UK, don't miss York. The apartment is also located in a great area for exploring, near a pedestrian only section that has many nice shops and restaurants and pubs.

“Fabulous!”

We stayed here on a "girls weekend" and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Beautiful appartment (very quirky!) with very comfortable bedrooms and all mod cons. It's very central so handy when going for a wander into town. We travelled down by train and it was only a 10 minute walk from the station. The view of York Minster is great from the living-room window.......just don't expect a long lie on a Sunday.....the bells go on for AGES!!!
We had a fantastic time here and all agreed we'd love to come back and stay longer!

“Perfect location”

Located opposite York Minster, the apartment was perfect for exploring this wonderful city. It was like a home from home with every convenience provided including a welcoming bottle of wine. The apartment is above a cafe/bistro but no problem with noise as the bedrooms are three floors above and, of course, you can take advantage of the delicious meals served. The staff at the cafe greeted us warmly on arrival and helped with taking luggage up to the apartment. A parking permit was provided for a nearby carpark. We would stay again without hesitation.
