Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Marriott York, which is in a very pleasant setting just outside the city. The gardens, overlooking the racecourse have a nice terrace which is a great place on a sunny day.
Our room, which was a suite, had windows that opened, a very comfortable oversized bed; plenty of toiletries (replenished daily) and a powerful hair dryer; all things that make for a pleasant stay.
The staff were always pleasant and in most instances went out of their way to be helpful.
However I do think the management team need to up their game or things could soon be allowed to slip. Upon checking in our bathroom had not been fully cleaned, I asked reception to have housekeeping go back to our room, sadly this was not actioned.
Sunday evening the bar ran out of Tonic Water – it took a great deal of persuading before anyone went to the store room to restock.
Empty glasses, etc., left on the terrace at 11pm were still there at 11am the next morning, not what you expect to see from a 4 star hotel.
The internet was unfortunately not working when we had a 2 hour window to organise something, the young lady on reception could not have been more helpful and made our booking on her terminal.
Overall I liked the hotel and would return in the hope that things have improved.More
