Spent a night with family when dropping off son for York University last weekend. Excellent on the whole with a great view of the race course. Good value full English breakfast with substantial fully equipped rooms. Prompt friendly service. Free parking. Didn't use the paid WIFI though. Should be free but nobody's perfect.

This was the last hotel we stayed at during our tour around Yorkshire, and all I can say was it was a big disappointment. We were greeted by Verity on reception who was very polite and efficient, but it went down hill there after. As we got out the lift on the first floor there was a horrible smell that hits you, and you can instantly see the place needed a lot of updating. We were in room 100 which had a broken door to the left hand side and wasn't a great first impression of what to expect. The room was dated and a little dirty with hairs still in the bath. The bed was big but not at all comfortable due to having 2 beds pushed together which were different heights meaning there was a lip.
The next disappointment was the restaurant where we had two flat cokes due to the coke tap running out, and only having flat bottles left. The food was overpriced and average . The scallops were ruined by being covered in pure vinegar, and the mains were disappointing but average. Not once were we asked how the food was, or if there was anything else they could do for us.
This brings me on to breakfast - The food was fine, but service was poor and all members of staff had dirty uniforms and looked like they didn't want to be there.
On checkout we were charged for items we were told was complimentary, however they did sort this out. And again we were not asked how our stay was and just felt generally disappointed by the whole experience.
I would not recommend anyone to stay here unless you were going to watch the races, and are not worried about the accommodation and poor service/ food.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!

Following our cival ceremony, we travelled to York for a short break and stayed at this hotel. As a treat we had pre booked into the Penthouse on the top floor. The room was huge, and had just about everything you could possibly want. It was clean, warm and extremely comfortable. The room view was brilliant, step out onto the balcony and have a spectacular view over the entire York Racecourse. We had two very minor niggles during our stay. 1. Check in was a little bit delayed, but no big deal. 2. Dinner in the evening was excellent (taste and presentation), but we both felt for the money we paid the servings should have been larger. Breakfast on both days was very tasty and filling...Brilliant! We both felt that, both of the minor niggles did not impact our stay and we both rate the hotel as excellent. and would definatley stay again.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and stay in a Penthouse....

Visiting York for a short break we landed at the Marriot York and an upgrade to a Penthouse!
As you would expect from that, the room was enormous, hosting a lounge, bedroom and everything you could imagine from a bathroom.
Only wish was that the Horse Racing had been on as you also have a patio overlooking the course
Excellant Bar area and Restaurant. Top Hotel..

Room Tip: Would have thought most would be accaptable.

This was our third time staying at this hotel with the family and I have to say I can't really fault it. For us it has a bit if everything. The staff are always pleasant and made us feel very welcome. The room we had was well presented and very clean. The hotel grounds have had a makeover since our last visit, with an extension to the patio area, a new paved area in the garden and updated paths. The garden is ideal for the kids, safe, plenty space and they had even added some out door games. Pool area is very nice and an ideal place to stop off after a busy day in York. The hotel is well situated on Tadcaster Road which has buses every few minutes into the City(buy a day saver and leave the car?). There are also a couple of Pubs within walking distance, which also serve food. It is obviously a busy hotel and yes certain areas could do with a touch up of paint etc. Food wise the breakfast was fantastic, at night a couple of time we ate from the bar menu which was more to our taste rather then the restaurant menu and it was very good. No problems with any requests that were made.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the rear garden on the lower ground floor and was very quiet, only down side was...

Stayed here for a wedding on a Saturday night. Staff on reception were lovely and very friendly. The receptionist even went as far to say that our room was "her favourite room" (not sure why this would be - over the entrance and next to the lift!). However, it was a very large room, with a massive bed.
Plenty of storage room was available in the room.
There were certain things we noticed ie) wallpaper peeling off and the fan in the bathroom was filthy.
The breakfast was great and had no complaints there at all and the grounds of the hotel were beautiful.
One poor thing is the lack of free wi-fi...It cost £6.00 for 1 hour use...ridiculous. Even my local Asda store provides free wi-fi..!!
The Marriott is lovely but I feel it needs updating. However it wouldn't stop me from staying there again.

Room Tip: Room 110 was over the entrance - could potentially be noisy if there is an event on.
