York Marriott Hotel

Booked this hotel for a long weekend in August. When we got there we checked in early and given a large room facing the road. Unfortunately it was next to the lift and whilst not overly loud - it would probably have annoyed me during the night. We were moved rooms without any fuss and our luggage moved whilst we were out.
Hotel is in need of some refurbishment in the common areas - it's not a purpose built Marriott. The hotel was full with weddings on the Friday and Saturday. The staff coped well at the bar and breakfast so was not a problem. Breakfast was good with an egg cook next to the Buffett.

It was a very hot weekend and the air conditioning was efficient and welcome.
a 20 min walk into York centre from the hotel or you could catch the bus outside the hotel.
Overall had a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the racecourse.

Great location and views of the racecourse .Exceptional staff , friendly and knowledgeable of the area . Close to city center but don't drive in , get the local bus which stops on the street just outside .
Breakfasts were good and plentiful . Easy parking .
A great base to see the local area and lots of public areas to check the internet ( they charge if you use it in the rooms )
No complaints .

Room Tip: Try to get to the back of the hotel for the best views and quiet

My wife and I stayed there in July. The photos of the rooms over looking the race coarse with a outside area looked really good, but actually from outside need a lot of attention an some repair
The best part of the hotel was the lovely gardens running down to the race coarse with a lovely seating area
First disappointment was when trying to book for evening meal We were told nothing available till after 9-0 o`clock , she checked with restuarant manager who confirmed this.
I said not happy get me the duty manager, he did not appear but they then found a table for 7-30.
The food was ok but even so early some items were not available what we had was ok but not as good as we expected
By 8-45 restuarant was empty so eating at 9-would have been fun
hotel Staff were OK but again not 4 star some not worth any stars
Breakfast was really good with great service so did leave on a high

We stayed at the marriott for a couple of days mid week with friends. The hotel staff were all very helpful and friendly. There is a bus stop outside the hotel with a regular service into town. We will certainly use this hotel again.

This was a last minute booking for me and my partner in December 2012 and as there wasnt many hotels with availability we trusted that this hotel would be of a high standard as its rated a four star and belongs to the Marriott chain. Although staff were very helpful and saw us too our room, later coming up with a small box of chocolates and a card to wish us a happy anniversary i felt the hotel was a let down. it was nothing special and not what i would expect from the price per night paid, friendly staff, nice breakfast but our superior room was nothing other than standard.

Nice welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. Good sized comfortable rooms with verrrry comfy beds. Excellent breakfast - lots of variety. Corridors getting a bit chipped around the edges - needs adding to the Marriott painting schedule. I asked for a quiet room - perfect - overlooking the gardens, though found it strange they put a single lady in a ground floor room. Good location, pleasant 20 minute walk into York. Will definitely stay again.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times and have always found it a very pleasant stay. The staff are very friendly but professional. It's a good 20 minute walk into the town centre but there is a bus stop just outside the hotel and the buses are every 15 minutes, much cheaper than a taxi and probably quicker due to the bus lanes!
Rooms are reasonably sized and very clean with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast is buffet style with a wide choice.
We will stay again when visiting York.

Room Tip: Try to avoid a view of the car park.
