“Good atmosphere and ales”
Reviewed August 14, 2014

Relaxed, local vibe with good choice of regional and european ales and ciders; and live music played regularly. When we visited they had local musicians playing Irish folk.

“Huge and home made”
Reviewed August 10, 2014

On a recent day out to catch up with friends in york we arranged to meet at the maltings ,
what a lovely homely down to earth place it is . Decided to have lunch and what a spot on decision that was. The food was delicious and portions were huge. Good value for money . Allow plenty of time as the food is cooked to order and not rushed but certainly worth the wait.

“How pubs should be.”
Reviewed July 26, 2014

Saw this place after a visit to the railway museum, and asked if they would accommodate four kids under four for lunch since it didn't look too busy. They were happy to feed us, and had a great selection of beer. Shame we had the kids! The chef offered to half or quarter any of the main menu items for the little ones which worked out great since they were all under 4. Fell a little bit foul of the chilli though, there was a warning on the menu but we didn't see it initially, and three adults ordered the chilli nacho's. I can eat a vindaloo no problem, but this chilli puts a vindaloo in the same bracket as banana milk shake. I couldn't eat much of it so felt a bit seen off. Just as well my pint was on the ball.

“Amazing CAMRA pub”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

This pub has one of the best ranges of ale and cider in York. It is really near the bus and rail stations and also very close to the town centre.
The service is great and the food that comes from the Dragon's Pantry is hearty and filling pub fare.
If you're an ale fan, this is easy to combine on a little crawl with some of the other great York venues, including the Tap, which is a 5 minute walk away.
There are a lot of 'hard drinkers' pubs a few minutes away on Micklegate. This is just far enough away to deter youngsters and give you a chance to enjoy a perfectly kept, interesting pint in great surroundings, and get a seat as well. They used to have regular blues and jazz nights, but since the refurbishment I'm not sure if these are still happening.

“Excellent real ale pub”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

Well restored real ale bub with good range of ales including Black Sheep. Also range of real ciders. Be careful with beer orders as some can be very high abv. Friendly staff and efficient service. Can be very busy post office closing so arrive early for a seat.
