“Ok I guess”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

Very basic but I think that is what they are trying to achieve - certainly a drinkers pub and is quite a place for the youngsters. Bouncer on the door did make me a little weary but thought this was OK as it was lunch time. Had lunch their it was fine but nothing special. Not enough bar staff, waited 15 mins to get to bar

“One of yorks finest”
Reviewed August 16, 2013 via mobile

We visit the maltings on a regular basis.
Always a very friendly welcome.
I would say a pub to be enjoyed by good decent people.
A great selection of real ales/ciders/lagers of the world.
The terrace is a great addition to this fantastic boozer.
We love the maltings.

“The Black Pub ( VERRY BLACK INDEED ! )”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

I was also one of the ladies on a trip out on saturday 3rd August ! The RUDE doorman !! Had a massive attitude problem with us all from entering the door , also the bar staff were rude too i asked for some more ice for my drink you,d have thought i was asking for the crown jewels . After spending £23 on a round of drinks we were given a 3 minute warning to leave the premises, the rude bouncer said we were making too much noise as a baby was trying to sleep upstairs we were all shocked and stunned at his commen but mostly his and rudeness it is however a public house we were being no louder than the rest of the people in there he was just spoiling for a fight . Most of us are Mothers with Babies ourselves it is up to the landlady to accommodate her children / grandchildren and also accommodate her paying customers who are doing no wrong. I would not give them business again ! The pub is Black on the outside and even BLACKER within !!!!

“Nice ladies removed !!”
Reviewed August 5, 2013 via mobile

We visited the Maltings on Saturday late afternoon after a lovely day in York with family. although the Kitchen was just finishing for the day, the bar man said the kitchen would cater for us quickly found table for the Six of us and within a few minutes, our table seemed to be overflowing with massive helpings of proper chips and great food.
We spent the next three hrs enjoying the atmosphere and having a really enjoyable finish to our day.
The reason for the Heading "nice ladies removed!!" Is due to us witnessing the events as described by the nice group of ladies who were asked to leave!!
The group of ladies in question came in and although not visibly Drunk, were very high in spirits, but over the course of approx 20 mins became very loud, shouting and swearing and certainly spoilt the atmosphere of the venue.
We being on the next table bore the brunt of this disruption until the Doorman very politely asked them to tone things down a little, as he walked away I couldn't put in words, the abuse that was handed out towards him, and they continued to carry on in their unladylike manner, to the point where we actually complained to the bar staff.
The Doorman then entered shortly afterwards and again politely asked the to calm down and explained that the landlords grandson was sleeping upstairs, to which he was greeted with "it's a fffing pub for gods sake".
He quite rightly asked them to finish their drinks and leave, and stood during much abuse whilst they were doing so, as they were leaving one if the "nice ladies" in question through her drink in his face, and left with a torrent of abuse.
We actually commended him on being so calm and polite during this situation, to which he simply replied, "manners cost nothing" and they will all wake up tomorrow and return to normal people !!
It's funny how people's description of previous events whilst in drink, alter do much when they decide to comment the next day when sober.
Well Done Maltings on your choice of staff.

“They ruined our day!!!!!!”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

We were six ladies in their 40-50's on a day out in York, I was visiting from dubai and can you imagine my surprise when we were approached by a miserable looking bouncer "type" and told to keep the noise down because the landlady's child was sleeping upstairs. One of my friends who also happens to be a landlady and a mother of 19 month old twins said that this was not really our problem as if you visit a pub it is with the intention of enjoying yourself and that we were not making an unreasonable amount of noise (just chatting). At this point the miserable man told us to leave and stood over us whilst he timed us - we were given 3.5 minutes to drink up. How rude!!!
